PROVIDER FADES INTO BACKGROUND

One of the keys to being a good TRE
provider is to take a back seat to the
tremor mechanism in the body.
This mechanism is truly doing all the
healing work inside the organism.
In order to support the tremor
mechanism as it softens the individual,
our ego must take the back seat and
stay out of the process.
It is the activation of the mechanism that will help the individual know how to deal
with our presence.
Sometimes, we need to be close, sometimes absent, sometimes questioning,
sometimes silent.

INTRODUCTION
1.

ACTIVATE THE TREMORS

2.

INCREASE OR DECREASE THE TREMORS SO

THE INDIVIDUAL CAN SELF-REGULATE THEM.

3.

FACILITATE THE TREMORS AS THEY MOVE

THROUGH THE BODY.

4.

SHORT ANATOMICAL (PHYSICAL)

INTERVENTIONS

5. HELP THE INDIVIDUAL TO DEVELOP A SAFE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR OWN BODY
AND THEIR TREMORS.

SIT & OBSERVE

Sit still and just observe the body. Allow different sensations to inform you of their body. The intervention is a
movement from within your organism to their organism. (Observe & Do not interpret ASK!)
! The tremor mechanism does the healing in the body.
! Help the individual develop a relationship with their tremor mechanism more than you.
Make interventions for 2 reasons:
1. If the individual feels stuck for more than 2 weeks.
2. If the same pattern continues to repeat itself for more that 2 weeks.
! The interventions are purely anatomical. We are trying to assist the tremor mechanism to have more options
to move throughout the body.
! Stretch the organism and then encourage the tremors into different parts of the body.
! Work from the external (safer) to the middle (delicate).
! Start with soft interventions and work towards more pressure.
! The interventions should not take longer than 5 minutes. The intervention can be applied multiple times until
the body learns how to have the desired effect by itself.

HOLD FEET

Hold the feet as a way of either grounding the person or helping to encourage the
tremors to move up the body. (Note: 26 bones in the foot. of the bones in the human body are
in the feet. There are 33 joints in the human foot.)

HOLD THE KNEES

Apply pressure on the outside of the knees to restrict the vibration in the legs. Negotiate
with the resistance of the knees and the vibration. Contain the movement in the knees
as a way of trying to encourage the tremors to go up the body.

SCIATIC NOTCH

Locate the sciatic notch by observing where the leg bends at the front of the hip. The
sciatic notch is located in the mid point of the gluteus. You can feel a slight indentation in
this are which is the sciatic notch.

RELEASE SHOULDER GIRDLE

Hold occipital ridge with one hand and push down onto the shoulder at the point of
tension. Hold the point for about 7 seconds or until the body begins to react to the
pressure through some kind of movement, vibration of pulsation.

CHEST COMPRESSION
Instruct the person to take your hand and place
the palm of your hand on their sternum where
they feel they need some pressure.

Be careful not to push on the trachea

if you push on the top of the sternum.

Be careful not to push on the xiphoid process

if you push on the bottom of the sternum.

CONTAINMENT INTERVENTIONS
1. In child position, forehead to the floor or roll into semi-fetal position.
2. Sit with your back against the clients back to provide containment, grounding and support.
3. Stand on feet and stomp on the ground..
4. Tell client to grab your hand and squeeze it. If they cant squeeze your hand, inform them that
you will squeeze their hand.
5. Name 3 things see in room, hear, smell in the room.
6. Eye contact with direction to breathe and reassurance that they will be fine
If in a group, have another person from the group sit back to back to help contain.
7. Hold breath for a few seconds to allow breath to even out (if breathing in a panicy manner)
8. Use a watch and follow the amount of time prior to dissociating experiences. This creates
structured and regular times for the exercises.

ACTIVATING INTERVENTIONS

1. Lay on back, raise legs and push heals towards the ceiling.
2. Put blanket roll under the individual s back to stretch chest cavity and
diaphragm.
3. Push lower back into the floor and then arch lower back in rhythmic movement.
4. Twist towel for hands and arms energetic flow.
5. Push ups on the wall (on floor).
6. Bite on towel (cork) to open jaw.
7. Place occipital ridge on back of chair and roll head back and forth to relieve
pressure.

INTERVENTION NOTES

In an Interview of Dan Siegel ( www.nicabm.com) speaking about Attachment Theory he said:

Stress/trauma disturbs the homeostasis of the integrated system of the human body. This causes it
to have differentiated parts and disharmonious experiences.
Dr Berceli has observed that the tremor mechanism appears to accesses these differentiated parts
and disharmonious experiences and reorganizes them into an integrated whole so that the body
can function again in an integrated manner.
Interpersonal neurobiology, is an interdisciplinary field designed to create a coherent view of the
whole person. (a term coined by Dr. Siegel in The Developing Mind, 1999.)
Intrapersonal neurophysiology, TRE is a method of accessing the autonomic defence response of
the human organism to restore homeostasis to assist in the restoration of human interpersonal
dynamics. (Dr. David Berceli)
Intra-personal attunement is instrumental to restoring Inter-personal attachment.
TRE helps elicit an internal attunement with the individuals sense of their own body which allows
them to re-enter into inter-personal relationships
