"In the beginning was the Word ..."

The signal path starts at the microphone. This transforms sound waves into mechanical vibrations,
and later in electrical oscillations. For this feat it has a membrane - thin sheet of metal that is suitable
to transmit sound waves – the air movements of the mouth converts in waves. These mechanical
vibrations are converted with an amplifier in the micro into electrical oscillations.

The resulting waves are very weak and will need a preamplifier.


AKG C4500 B-BC

AKG C 4500 B-BC broadcast large-diaphragm microphone. The C 4500 B-BC has been specifically
developed for use in advanced radio studios and production suites. It provides all the features
required of a high quality, professional announcer microphone. The body and sound entry have been
designed such that the microphone can be placed in front of the announcer's mouth without
obstructing their field of vision. The microphone is extremely rugged and provides a wide dynamic
range. In addition, the body is shielded against electrostatic and electromagnetic interference. The
output signal needs no external processing.

Conclusion

A first-class speech microphone! Unlike an ordinary studio microphone sits here the membrane in
the head of the unit. Thus the view of the text is more liberal than conventional microphones.

The AKG C4500 B-BC is more robust and shielded (for radio studios) set up as a highly sensitive studio
microphone. Thus it is also suitable for areas where there is a bit louder (notebook PC fan, electrical
noise), just for rooms that are not sealed perfectly sound.

Specially developed for speaker in the radio studio will also make it in the audio-book-studio using, a
very good figure.

their sound so their audience hears every nuance. The C 414 family has been one of the world’s most

The new models C 414 XLS and C 414 XLII offer nine pickup patterns which enable to choose the

Conclusion

The flagship of AKG in the execution especially for voice and singing. In 2005 it was awarded the
mipa - Award (Best Recording Microphone).

The AKG C414 XL-II contains a very sharp blade. He record so precise and delicate that even a well-
shielded recording space is required (see questions and answers). After the recording process, it
takes filters, equalizer, compressor and other plug-ins for professional editing. So nothing for
amateurs - this is a professional microphone, which must be treated as such.

Preamplifier (first page)

Microphone amplifiers (amps) are used to amplify the microphone signal. With them, the level (RMS
average level) is set, to be worked further on the computer. They also supply condenser microphones
using 48 V phantom power. Because this, work only with this 48V voltage.

They are available as individual components, as a preamp with converter or all in one as Channel
Strip (Amplifier, EQ, Compressor,Converter). Individual components are preferred for audio books.

A first-class pre-amp in combination with a good A / D converter and the work goes to the Comp ...

The MindPrint Envoice-MKII is a transistor interface with optional tube circuitry, for superior voice.

Whether purely with transistor or recorded with tube circuitry is to let each flavor self (make several
test shots). For sound working it is equipped with EQ, compressor and LowCut filter. Thus, the audio
signal could be processed even when recording. But the trend goes in the direction of the computer-
based editing of audio material, and thus a pure, purist recording - but with the best possible
hardware. The A / D converter of the device (optional or Digital Edition) is equipped with a fast USB
2.0 computer connection. The MindPrint Envoice MKII does, however, even without EQ and
compressor, what it should: recording and converting.

Such a "channel strip" clearly belongs to a well-equipped recording studio.

The Focusrite ISA ONE is a compact microphone preamplifier. Microphones, instruments or line level
signals can be used. Microphone or line level sources to be connected to the back, while instruments
are connected directly to the front. At the front there are also controls for pre-amplification, and
other settings, such as phantom power and input impedance. There is also a traditional and an LED
VU level meter modulation, both with sliders to calibrate on the back for optimum adaptation.

Headphone (first page)

High-quality headphones is required if production comes to monitoring. In contrast to the production


of music - which is working almost with audio boxes - will be the voice-wave controlled with
headphones. And with various models, since each pair sounds different.

We distinguish between closed and open, supraaural and circumaural headphones:

• Closed shield the area between the ear and the outside world better and give the bass more,
louder

Conclusion

Expensive reference headphones from AKG.

He has completely different sound qualities than his brother (271 MKII): much less bass, but a
greater detail impression. Therefore, it is ideally suited for fine-tuning of a voice. It happens very well
that the K 702 is not a gigantic slicer, but a delicate small blade. Because there are small flaws: The
headband pressed after prolonged work.

In combination with a closed, strong bass headphones (K 271), a real power.

About audio interfaces (converter), the signals are routed to the computer. Thus, the computer that

Microphone Cables (first page)

At the microphone and converter cables, it is important, as long as the routes analog run, take only
the best. And in the compact audio studio, with a single signal channel (micro), and an immediate A /
D conversion, is this no big deal. Two short cables usually suffice.

The software is divided into three groups: first, the sequencers, secondly, the editors and thirdly, the
plug-ins.

Many manufacturers have developed computer-controlled audio editing software. They invented all
sorts of tools with the most amazing properties. And although at first consequence for television and
music industries; but that does not mean that it can not be utilized for voice (audiobook) - in fact,
from this technical groundwork, can be the greatest benefits are drawn.

Sequenzer

With the sequencers, especially in the audio book production, only recorded. You control the volume
(RMS average level), format (32-bit float), and add effects. It is advisable to produce no audio edit
actions in the recording; because they can not repaired later. The audio editing is best done with an

The editor software is the main tool in computer-based production process. The method, which,

Audacity is a free recording software in a class. Comparing audacity (pure hardware comparison,
without plug-ins) with more expensive branded software, so there is no difference. In the final result,
the purchased software is a little bit better.

Conclusion

Professional secquencer from Steinberg. With cubase be only recording the voice, but only for this,
it´s too bad. Cubase is commonly utilized for music production. It highly desirable if Steinberg, or
another, would develop a professional sequencer just for the record.

In contrast to "Audacity" is cubase a crashproof software. Controlling during and after the recording
is in progress in an orderly, familiar Wavelab orbits. The statistic tool (RMS average level) controlled
the volume, to pass then only the best level to the editor.

If one looks over the price and has worked properly, so there is nothing to criticize.

P.S. Cubase Essential? This I have not considered, since, the essential statistical tool (RMS average
level) does not exist on this version.

Attenuated version of Wavelab. In order to familiarize themselves - working with complicated


professional software - can be at the begin, the attenuated Wavelab version be used. Not everyone
will like to spend right away five hundred euros for the full version.

Wavelab Essential can be used as a sound meter (average RMS level) for the recording computer. The
main software is enabled via included USB Flash Drives; wavelab essential operated without an
additional USB stick.

But in the longer term as the main editor program is not suitable.

The main working field of the editor. In this professional software, all threads come together and are
blended together.

UAD and Powercore plug-ins are be adjusted and controlled via Wavelab, and used. The entire digital
workflow process runs over them. The three different volume Points (recording, audio editing and
finish volumes) are with the Wavelabanalyse monitored, recorded and adjusted.
With Wavelab tools (Pegel Correction + / -, Parametric Equalizer + / -, Time Correction + / -) will
occasionally worked. The rendering window provides a smooth control of the various in-house and
DSP plug-ins.

WaveLab 6 is a complex but very good software; because most of the tools can also be used. This
software is developed since 1995 - there will certainly be developed further, and is absolutly future
proof. There are other editors (Pro Tools), which are also praised in glowing terms - I bought
Wavelab 6, and never regretted that decision.
