MARINERS SELECT 8 PLAYERS ON DAY TWO OF 2016 MLB DRAFT

Mariners selected five infielders, three pitchers, one catcher and one outfielder in first 10 rounds of 2016 MLB Draft.
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Tom McNamara announced today that the club selected
8 players on the second day of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Rounds 3 to 10 were conducted
today and the draft will conclude with rounds 11-40 tomorrow, beginning at 9:00 a.m. PT. The Mariners have selected 10
players combined in the first two days of the draft.
In the first 10 rounds, the Mariners selected five infielders, three pitchers (1 LHP and 2 RHP), one catcher and one outfielder.
Nine of the 10 draft picks have been college selections and one from high school.

The Mariners selected infielder Bryson Brigman out of the University of San Diego with their 3rd-round pick (No. 87 overall).
As a sophomore in 2016, Brigman hit .372 (71x191) with 31 runs, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 22 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 47
games. After his recently-complete sophomore season, Brigman was named to the All-West Coast Conference First-Team
for the second consecutive season. Brigman recorded 22 multi-hit games and 4 multi-RBI games for the Toreros this season.
Brigman is the only player to appear on three world championship teams for USA Baseball, earning a 16-and-under
championship in 2011 and back-to-back titles with the 18-and-under team in 2012 and 2013. Brigman was also selected in
the 40th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics out of Valley Christian High School (San Jose, CA).
Left-handed pitcher Thomas Burrows out of the University of Alabama was selected 117th overall (4th round). Burrows was
2-1 with a 0.95 ERA (3 ER, 28.1 IP) with 12 saves in 21 appearances out of the bullpen for Alabama this season. As a junior
in 2016, Burrows struck out 41 and walked 9 while holding opponents to a .179 (19x106) average against. Burrows is
Alabamas all-time career saves leader with 30. Burrows is majoring in finance at the University of Alabama.
Shortstop Donnie Walton was selected in the 5th round (147th overall) out of Oklahoma State University. As a senior in
2016, Walton hit .350 (78x223) with 44 runs, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 43 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 59 games
(57 starts). Walton is a three-time All-Big 12 First Team selection (2014, 2015 & 2016), the first player in Oklahoma State
history to accomplish this feat. In 219 career games with the Cowboys, Walton is a .318 hitter with 44 doubles, 11 home
runs and 135 RBIs. Walton was also selected in the 36th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the New York Mets out of Bishop
Kelley High School (Tulsa, OK). Walton was also selected in the 23rd round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers
out of Oklahoma State University. Walton is majoring in sports management at Oklahoma State University.
Right-handed pitcher Brandon Miller was selected in the 6th round (117th overall) out of Millersville University (Millersville,
PA). As a junior in 2016, Miller was 12-2 with a 1.42 ERA (17 ER, 107.2 IP) in 15 starts with 115 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Miller posted 8 complete games, including 3 shutouts, for the Marauders this season while limiting opponents to a .166
(63x380) average against. Miller was named to the 2016 Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America
first-team. Miller was also chosen as one of 10 finalists for the Brett Tomko Award, presented annually to the nations top
Division II pitcher, as well as being named the consensus All-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year. Miller is majoring in applied
engineering and technology management at Millersville.
The Mariners selected right-handed pitcher Matt Festa in the 7th round (207th overall) out of East Stroudsburg University
(East Stroudsburg, PA). As a redshirt-senior in 2016, Festa was 11-2 with a 2.35 ERA (23 ER, 88.0 IP) in 13 starts with 105
strikeouts and 21 walks. Festa posted 9 complete games, including 2 shutouts, for the Warriors this season. In 2016, Festa
set East Stroudsburg single-season records for starts (13), wins (11), complete games (9), innings (88.0) and strikeouts
(105). Festa was tabbed as one of 10 finalists for the 2016 Brett Tomko Award, presented annually to the nations top
Division II pitcher. Festa is majoring in business management at East Stroudsburg.

Utility player Nick Zammarelli was selected in the 8th round (237th overall) out of Elon University (Elon, NC). As a junior in
2016, Zammarelli hit .342 (76x222) with 56 runs, 24 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs, 51 RBI, 33 walks and 10 stolen
bases in 54 games. In 2015, Zammarelli was named to the Cape Cod League All-Star team. Zammarelli was also
selected in the 28th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Zammarelli is majoring in sport and event
management at Elon University. His father, Nick, played baseball at College of the Holy Cross.
Catcher Jason Goldstein was selected in the 9th round (267th overall) out of the University of Illinois. As a senior in 2016,
Goldstein hit .312 (53x170) with 17 runs, 5 doubles, 4 home runs, 29 RBI and 16 walks in 46 games. Goldstein led the
Illini in batting (.312), on-base percentage (.402) and RBI (29) in 2016. Goldstein finished his senior campaign with 15
multi-hit games 2nd-most on the Illini as well as a team-best seven 3-hit games. Goldstein was also selected in the 17th
round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Goldstein is majoring in industrial engineering at the University
of Illinois. His brother, Tyler, was a pitcher at Johns Hopkins University from 2011-2014.
Infielder David Greer was selected in the 10th round (297th overall) out of Arizona State University. As a junior in 2016,
Greer hit .344 (77x224) with 49 runs, 23 doubles, 2 triples, 8 home runs, 43 RBI, 38 walks and 4 stolen bases in 59 games.
Greer earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors in 2016. Greer was also named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Third
Team this season. Greer has appeared at five different positions for Arizona State this season (1B, 2B, 3B, LF, P).
The 2016 Draft concludes tomorrow with rounds 11-40, beginning at 9:00 am PT. On Twitter, the official Draft Twitter
