Focus and Scope

Readership

Objectives:

Professionals, policy-makers, government officers,

academics, researchers, and managers in Technology
& Innovation.
Subject Coverage:

The objectives of Journal of Technology Management

& Innovation (JOTMI) are to develop, promote and
coordinate the science and practice of Technology
Management & Innovation. It also aims to help
professionals that are working in fields as, engineering
and business educators and policy-makers to
contribute, to disseminate information and to learn
from each other's work. In particular, the journal will
focus on the managerial issues and challenges (and
ways to address them) brought about by the
protagonism of the global technological advancement.
This international dimension is to accentuate in order
to promote greater exchange between researchers of
different cultural and national backgrounds, thus
contributing and enriching our knowledge in the fields
of Technology Management & Innovation, with
particular emphasis in the transformation of
knowledge and technologies into useful products and
services in biotechnological industries, as a key driver
of economic growth. JOTMI publishes original
papers, review papers, technical reports, case studies,
conference reports, management reports, book
reviews, notes, commentaries, and news. Special
Issues devoted to important topics in technology
management will occasionally be published.

Coverage includes the following areas of technology

management and how they impact upon the areas of
marketing, human resources, accounting and finance
and the supply chain:
Government innovation policy, and regulation for
innovation.
Process and product innovation and diffusion.
Technology strategy, collaboration and competition.
Managing and commercializing intellectual property.
Technology transfer, and innovation support
organizations.
Research in management and commercialization.
Cross-cultural management and innovation.
Team building and team management.
Managing creativity and creative teams.
Managing virtual teams and environments for
innovation.
Managing organizational learning, knowledge and
technological change.
Selection criteria:
Criteria for the article selection includes: that the
article need to be novel, relevant, concise, practical,
informative and useful to readers of the respective
sections of the Journal: Articles, Review, Current
opinion, News & Announcements, Letters to the
Editor etc

Case Studies
Letters to the Editor:
Letters to the Editor may be submitted in response to
work that has been published in the Journal. Letters
should be short commentaries related to specific
points of agreement or disagreement with the
published work. Letters are not intended for
presentation of original data unrelated to a published
article. Letters can only be submitted electronically
via the Journal website, by clicking on the link
entitled Submit a Letter to the Editor on the abstract
page or the article itself. Letters should be no longer
than 500 words with no more than five complete
references, and may not include any figures or tables.
In Letter to editor, we also publish Current Opinion
that express a well argued and concise point about
Innovation, Technology Management etc (see focus
and scope).

Articles
Research Articles are empirical or conceptual papers
that present the results of research, new theories
which integrate existing literature, or state-of-the-art
models in technology management and/or innovation
management.
Review
Reviews are articles that summarize and analyze a
topic of importance to Journal of Technology
Management & Innovation for those who are not
specialists in the topic area of the review. Readers
should be able to learn what is known and what
questions remain unresolved about the subject.
Reviews should include an introduction to the
problem or issue including why the topic is of interest
and a discussion of the issues or new information as it
relates to Technology Management & Innovation.
The body of the review may be subdivided using
headings that describe the major ideas being
discussed. Reviews should cite suitable references to
document statements that are not considered general
knowledge and may also provide a list of printed
and/or electronic resources for further information.

Case Studies should be about work carried out on a

national, regional or local basis. They are likely to
include the following: a background scenario; a clear
statement of the purpose of the work; a relationship to
past or current work; who was involved; what
happened; what happened; what deductions can be
made; a critical review of the work; how the case
study has implications for others.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Journal of Technology
Management & Innovation are subjected to peerreview. Upon submission, the manuscript to be
reviewed is distributed to 3 qualified reviewers.
Reviewers have 2 weeks to review the submission and
to recommend to the Chief Editor acceptance,
acceptance with modification, or rejection. If the
manuscript is accepted with revision, the Chief Editor
returns the manuscript to the corresponding author.
Authors should then make any suggested changes in
the article and return it to the Chief Editor by email.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides open access to all of its content
on the principle that making research freely available
to the public supports a greater global exchange of
knowledge. Such access is associated with increased
readership and citation levels. The journal uses open
source software, developed by the Public Knowledge
Project, to help make open access economically
viable, as well as to improve the scholarly and public
quality of research.
Archiving
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a
distributed archiving system among participating
libraries and permits those libraries to create
permanent archives of the journal for purposes of
preservation and restoration.

brackets, for example Narvez (2000) suggests or

Each article should be accompanied by a title page

that includes: all authors' names, institutional
affiliations, address, telephone numbers, e-mail
address, abstract in English, keywords and brief
biographical
notes
about
authors.
Registration and login are required to submit items
online and to check the status of current submissions.
The original typescript should be submitted
electronically in A4 size format, with a word count of
5000-7000 (excluding figures), with double-spaced
typing preferred and a wide margin on the left,
following the submission requirements described on
the Journal's website. A final paper which would
exceed 7000 words or occupy more than 20 pages of
the Journal may be returned for abridgement.

Figures y tables

Style Guidelines:

The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or

WordPerfect document file format. All URL
addresses in the text (p.e., http://jotmi.org) are
activated and ready to click.

Here is a Microsoft Word 2002 document/template

that should help you with some of the basic
formatting. Academic articles should use the Harvard
system of referencing and be formatted according to
the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association. 'American' or
'English' spellings are acceptable, provided they are

Title: short title (IN UPPER CASE, not more than
50 characters) should be included.
Abstract: approximately 100 words, maximum 150
in English.

Ideally tables, figures and appendixes should be

supplied at the end of the main text, with their desired
locations cross-referenced within the text. Tables and
figures should be numbered consecutively in separate
sequences, use Arabic numerals (e.g., 1, 2, 3), and
have self-explanatory captions.
Submission Preparation Checklist
The submission has not been previously published,
nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an
explanation has been provided in Comments to the
Editor).

The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font;

employs italics, rather than underlining (except with
URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and
tables are placed within the text at the appropriate
points, rather than at the end. The text adheres to the
stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the
Author Guidelines, which is found in About the
Journal.
