SOUNDBANK FOR THE

YAMAHA MOTIF CLASSIC/MOTIF ES
Synthesizer workstations

OWNER'S MANUAL

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the DCP Productions "Mo Skool" soundbank for the
Yamaha Motif Classic/Motif ES synthesizer workstation. This soundbank utilizes
3.5 MB of new samples. At least 4 MB of installed user RAM is required in order
to use this soundbank. The Motif Classic includes 4 MB of user RAM preinstalled. A new Motif ES does not ship with any pre-installed user RAM, it must
be purchased and then installed. See your Motif owner's manual for more
information regarding the user RAM specifications.
"Mo Skool" is the result of many requests from Motif users for a collection of new
sounds suitable for hip-hop, R&B, rap, and other urban music styles. It includes
complete breakbeats and loops (all of which can serve as inspiration for new
songs), ultra low-end basses, slammin' synth sounds, vintage keyboards, ethnic
instruments, and an entire section of "urban"special effects taken from DCP
Productions acclaimed "Action Sound FX/Foley" sample library. In addition, 16
new user drumkits are included.
Many of the sounds have that "straight off of vinyl" vibe, and every sound is
loaded with plenty of "flava" and character. In short, "Mo Skool" contains plenty of
what you need to get your tracks to stand up and stand out.

HOW TO LOAD THE SOUNDBANK

insert a Motif-formatted SM card into the reader.
2. When the SM icon appears,
drag the files marked SKOOLCLS.W2A and SKOOLCLS.W3A onto the icon,

ABOUT THE NEW SAMPLES

It is recommended that you ALWAYS load "Mo Skool" as an ALL file. The
soundbank uses new samples which are "attached" to the voices. If you load
voices in one at a time (to audition them) you run the risk of loading the same
sample data more than once, since many of the voices SHARE the same sample
data.
Motif and Motif ES do not "know" that the same sample data is used by more
than one voice. So, for example, if you load a voice that uses the "GlokNine"
sample and then load another voice that uses that same sample, the sample gets
loaded twice, once for each voiceload. Motif and Motif ES always load the voice
with whatever samples are attached to it.

WHEN YOU POWER OFF YOUR MOTIF/MOTIF ES, THE NEW SAMPLES
LOADED IN WILL BE LOST. YOU WILL HAVE TO RELOAD "MO SKOOL"
EACH TIME YOU TURN ON OUR MOTIF/ES AND WANT TO USE THE
SOUNDBANK.

This is because the samples are loaded into RAM (Random Access Memory)
which is "volatile", meaning the samples aren't stored in your machine, they're
only sitting there temporarily until you turn off your Motif/Motif ES. Sounds which
use Motif's internal samples will still work when you turn off and then reboot your
Motif/Motif ES, because those sounds utilize ROM (Read Only Memory) samples
which are "burned"(stored) into Motif's internal computer chip and cannot be lost.
"But if I load in MoSkool and then turn off and reboot Motif, I still see the MoSkool
voicenames and I can hear most of the voices when I play".
Yes, because not ALL of the MoSkool voices use new samples. Just some of
them do. Regardless, just remember that each time you tun on your Motif/Motif
ES you will have to reload "MoSkool" from your Smart Media card.

ABOUT THE VOICES

CONTROLLERS
Almost all of the Mo Skool voices are designed so that something happens when
you move/play one of the following controllers:
Assignable Knob 1
Assignable Knob 2
Pitch Bend Wheel
Mod Wheel
Ribbon (Motif ES).
Try using any of these controllers while playing - you'll see that the creative
possibilities really expand when you do. Plus, the "fun factor" increases as well.
ARPEGGIOS (MOTIF ES)
Motif ES features five arpeggios per voice. Where a voice uses an arpeggiator,
you can switch to different patterns by pressing the SF1 thru SF5 buttons.
SLIDERS AND TRACK MUTE BUTTONS
You can use the four sliders and track mute buttons on Motif/Motif ES to provide
an even greater number of variations in the sound. Move the sliders to bring
parts of the sound in and out, or use the track mute buttons to create
breakdowns within breakbeat voices like "Chill Pill " and "Tripper". If you find that

you'd like to use just the pitched sound in a breakbeat/loop voice, you can easily
use the track mute buttons and then turn off the arpeggiator.

LIST OF VOICES
A1-Krew Rolls
An "introduction" to "Mo Skool". Bouncing "low-rider" 94 BPM beat plus other
sonic effects.

Furry, fuzzy analog synth lead sound with a delayed high-pitched electronic sitar
tone following it. For song or album intros.

Jumpin' , jerkin' jeep beat with pitched musical tones, great for forming the basis
of a complete track.

"Lil' ethnic" instrument lead, koto or shamisen kind of sound. On Motif Classic
this voice is a pitched phrase which plays in one key only, however, you can
change the key of the phrase by moving assignable knob 2.
A6 - Broadkastr
"Morse code" or "space transmission" lead sound.
A7- Diggle
Extremely edgy, super buzzy lead sound.

The name says two things about this sound. One, it's a 97 BPM drum break with
some serious sub-shakin lows - enough to blow out woofers if you're not careful.
Two, it's the kind of sound that is heard best through a slammin' sound system
installed in a Ford Excursion. Hit the keys hard to get more beat variations
happening.
B7 - ChromeRims
Musical breakbeat, 98 BPM, on the gangsta tip. Growling synth, phat kick,
choppy orchestra hits.

B8 - Loopbak
Like B6 and B7, this sounds like a drum loop but doesn't continue until you hit the

another so that a "pseudo" groove happens when you first play the sound.
Turntable scratches, kick, snare, lo-fi noises.
B9 - SubWoofer
Another low-end shaker - we're not responsible for speaker destruction if you turn
this sound up loud. 808 kick/bass, blip, super hi hi-hats. Hit the keys hard to get
additional beats.
