2. Narcotic Control Regulations


a. Understand Definitions for licensed dealer, narcotic, prescription, verbal

requiredbytheMinister;and
(b)reporttotheMinisteranylossortheftofanarcoticwithin10daysofhisdiscoverythereof.
21AlicenseddealermayonlyimportintoorexportoutofCanadaanarcoticattheplacespecifiedinhis
permit.
22Alicenseddealershallsecurelypackinapackagesealedinsuchamannerthatitcannotbeopened
withoutbreakingthesealanynarcoticintendedforexportoutofCanada.
23(1)Exceptasprovidedinsubsection(2),alicenseddealershall,intakingdeliveryofanarcotic
importedbyhimorinmakingdeliveryofanarcotic,
(a)takesuchstepsasarenecessarytoensuresafekeepingofthesaidnarcoticduring
transit;and
(b)usesuchmethodoftransportationaswillensureanaccuraterecordbeingkeptofthe
narcoticandofthesignaturesofanypersonshavingchargeofthenarcoticuntilitisdeliveredtothe
consignee.

dealerslicence,sellorprovideanarcoticundersubsections24(2)to(5)ifthelicenseddealerhas,onthe
premisesspecifiedinthelicence,received
(a)awrittenorder,
(b)anordersentthroughacomputerfromaremoteinputdevice,or
(c)averbalorderforverbalprescriptionnarcotics
thatspecifiesthenameandquantityofthenarcotictobesupplied.

i. Understand Section 27 (8) (Requirement to send receipt to licensed dealer

(8)Wherealicenseddealerhasreceivedanorderreferredtoinparagraph(1)(b)fromapharmacistor

f. Understand Section 30 (Requirement to record the receipt of narcotics
purchased
in separate register)
30Apharmacistwhoreceivesanarcoticfromalicenseddealerordriedmarihuanafromalicensed
producershallimmediatelyenterinabook,registerorotherrecordmaintainedforsuchpurposes,the
following:
(a)thenameandquantityofthenarcoticreceived;
(b)thedatethenarcoticwasreceived;and
(c)thenameandaddressofthepersonfromwhomthenarcoticwasreceived.

g. Understand Section 31 (Narcotic to be supplied only pursuant to written


prescription)
31(1)Nopharmacistshallsellorprovidenarcoticsexceptinaccordancewiththissectionandsections34
to36and45.
(2)Apharmacistmaysellorprovideanarcoticotherthanmethadoneordriedmarihuanatoaperson

(a)ifthepersonisexemptedundersection56oftheActwithrespecttothe
possessionofthatnarcotic;or
2
(b)ifthepharmacisthasfirstreceivedawrittenorderorprescriptiontherefor
signedanddatedbyapractitionerandthesignatureofthepractitioner,wherenotknown
tothepharmacist,hasbeenverifiedbyhim.
(2.1)Forthepurposeofsubsection(2),forgreatercertainty,apharmacistmaysellorprovideanarcoticto
amidwife,nursepractitionerorpodiatristonlyifthemidwife,nursepractitionerorpodiatristispermitted
toprescribeorpossessthenarcotic,ortoconductanactivitywithit,inaccordancewithsections3and4of
theNewClassesofPractitionersRegulations.
(3)Apharmacistmaysellorprovidemethadoneto

provideorreturndriedmarihuanainaccordancewithsubsection65(2.1)or(3.1)orsection65.3.

h. Understand Section 34 (Ability to dispense a Verbal Prescription Narcotic


pursuant to written or verbal order)
