1. What is iRU?
1 Introduction
Vertical lifting machinery or high inertia loads like elevators, cranes,
centrifugal fans and centrifuges contain potential energy and inertial energy
when operating. When the motor is operated by an VFD, this energy is
converted back into electrical energy when the devices decelerate, lower or stop
the load. This electrical energy, called regeneration, flows back into the VFDs
DC bus, causing the voltage to rise.
Traditionally, this regenerative energy is dissipated as heat through dynamic
braking resistors, and is therefore wasted.
The iRU series (Innovative Regeneration Unit) can provide up to 40% energy
savings, by reclaiming that regenerative energy and feeding it back into the AC
supply.
2. Applications
Overhauling loads, High inertia loads, Machines requiring rapid deceleration, Flywheels, Punch
presses, Vacuum pumps, Heavy loaded conveyors (mining), Hydraulic pumps, Pump jacks, Drums
(kilns), Locomotives, Cranes and hoists, Elevators, Stamping machines, Die casting machines,
Extrusion presses, Injection molding machines, Webs (converting)

After wiring, wire offcuts must not be left in the Drive. Wire
offcuts can cause an alarm, failure or malfunction. Always
keep the inverter clean.
Use the shield cable or twist cable as the connection cables
to the terminals of the control circuit, and separate them from
the main circuit.
