ITEC Portfolio Artifact Reflection

Standard 1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change

Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining
technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools.
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were
your individual contribution(s)?
The Action/ Evaluation Plan artifact was used as part of the Technology Planning Project.
Based on the evidence that was gathered during the SWOT analysis completed for Hahira
Middle School the action plan is a future plan for change in the school. The Action Plan
addresses goals for skilled teachers, instructional changes, student focused lessons, and
diversity considerations. Each goal has a success indicator, evaluation method, strategies
for implementation, budget concerns or needs, timeline, and person/s responsible clear
detailed and systemically outlined. I created all of these goals based on the needs of the
school as addressed from the data gathered from stakeholder feedback.

2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it
is placed.
This artifact demonstrates how based on the research through the SWOT analysis and the
SIP/ Tech plan analysis goals were created and recommended to meet the needs in the
school. Research was conducted to look for viable options to help teachers utilize the
technology tools that are currently available at the school but were inadequately trained.
Research was also conducted using the IRIS model to find options for teachers to use
with ESOL students in order for technology to be incorporated into their lessons and
available in their native language. All of the recommendations or goals are based on
areas of weakness and if followed through should help to increase the technology
innovations and change in the school culture. For each recommendation there are
specific strategies outlined such as how teachers will embed technology into the lessons,
using a school resource wiki, and how administrators could evaluate the continued use of
each strategy.

3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to
improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
When creating this artifact I had to look at the needs of the school and the areas of
weakness that all of the stakeholders agreed upon. This was beneficial to me as a
classroom teacher to see the school as a whole and more than just my classroom. It is
important to not only look for areas that can be improved but plan for ways that will
continue that initiative. One of the ways that I think I could improve on this artifact
would be to add more Web. 2.0 tools for ESOL students to use on a daily basis in class
such as google translate.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement,
faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
My administrator has reviewed my Action Plan and is excited about including in the
Professional Learning time segments for the faculty in the fall courses over smart board
training, google sites for students and teachers, and reviewing the ISTE standards with
the entire certified faculty. The impact of the continued technology use in the classroom
can be assessed in the TKES platform and observed by administrators during
walkthrough observations.
