To Be A Good Teacher in West Borneo

Nowadays, education is one of the most important aspects to build a

better state. Government highly appreciates the actors of education, especially the
teachers who are called as the unsung heroes in our country. Education is a human
rights that is dealt with our constitution and laws. The allocating of budget for
education turned into the first priority from all of the sectors. Education is an aspect
that must be prioritized by the government, because it reaches the rights of society
directly. Its also closely getting along to human resources development in the
future.
As mentioned before that education is the most priority programs of our
government, one of the realization is the salary increment for the teachers. The
teachers salary increases averaged 10 percent per year. Luckily, the Minister of
Education and Culture asked Parliament for permission to reach the General
Allocation Fund for official teachers salary of IDR 10,1 trillion. The request had been
reported to the Committee X and it is waiting for a decision from the law of national
budget. Furthermore, the government shall increase the budget to pay for teachers
professional allowance of IDR 13 trillion. However, it is still said to be quite less.
In fact, the government is still unable to provide large salaries to teachers
and supply the necessary of school infrastructure and facilities. It may cause the
shortage of infrastructure and facilities and also the lowness of teachers welfare
level. Both are the biggest problem of education, especially in West Borneo. There
are the other problems in education that we are facing now, for example the high
rate of drop out at all levels of education and the lack number of teachers. The last
one is the most important issue that catches the attention of government. As the
effort, the government has raised teacher salaries from year to year. But, is the
quality of the teachers themselves get increased too?
So, its a need and a must to balance the rights and duties. Teachers have
to be aware of their obligations as the main actor of education. Teachers have to
able to become both instructors and educators. Teachers should not prioritize the
salary as their number one goal in life. Teachers must have good knowledges, skills,
and the ability of communicating with their students. And the most important thing,
a teacher must be a good model for students.
In the case of West Borneo, education is still regarded as a complex
matter by thinking that there are still many children or people who do not study at a
formal school. We need an ideal teacher, who has a high professionalism in
teaching. Teachers must intend to teach and educate sincerely. A goodwill is a
determinant for the act who has been done and is going to do. Sincere teachers

dont concern about a situation. They just want their students get a success to
achieve their future goal. All they need to do first is knowing their self, their
profession, and their students.
West Borneo needs teachers who have an excellent intellectual ability and
problem solving skills. The other characteristics are inspiring, creative, and
innovative in teaching. Creativity is the main point to gain a high professionalism.
West Borneo is still poor in spreading of technology, especially for the internet
access. Even the existence of high quality books is low in quantity. So hopefully the
teachers can explore the materials by utilizing the technology. Another point is
communication that must built well between the teachers and the students. It can
include a deeply interaction and counselling when the students get trouble in
studying even in their personal life. If this is well-developed, studying is just like a
nice garden for both the teachers and the students to know each other, learn, and
train.
