It was decided that we did

not fancy the house up enou^, so they

would do it for us.

Every Christinas we color a picture from our

book on furlough with us. This is our family

Several notes for all of you.

We can no longer import bows, arrows, arrowheads,

If the above items are sent over

Customs is getting more strict on charging duty on

incoming mail.
They are starting to charge customs on the
cost of shipping and mailing as well as the value of the
items.
If you send us something., feel free to use surface
mail

unless

the

Certain items, such as books, are customs exempt.

They can then be

marked down in value due to the fact that they have been
used before.
Clothes can be washed, tags taken off (we

can't take them back if they do not fit, anyway) and marked

with garage sale prices.

Also, do not bend the rules.

We

may have to open packages for the customs officials, and if

we do any surprises may be confiscated. When filling in the
customs declaration

be sure to be thorough and accurate.

We have had to pay customs several times, but we expect

that.
Sometimes the charges were higher than necessary
because invoices were not included and we could not prove
the amount paid for a new item.
Some used things have not
been marked used.
Reasonable customs charges are fair and
expected, but we do not want to pay more than necessary.
We
felt that you should know what is up so we don't have to pay
what we reallydo not need to pay.

This is the last time we have seen

Peter, our former Madang MAP pilot.

He went on furlou^ before Christnas
and has been transferred to Port

Moresby upon his return to PNG. We

miss him greatly, but will probably
get to see him as we leave PNG for
our next furlough in 1992.
