One major structural characteristic of tall buildings is that under the effect of lateral
loads such as wind and seismic loads becomes more vital with the increase in the
height of the building. For that kind of tall structures are generally consist of load
bearing shear walls and slabs. These shear walls carry both gravity as well as the
lateral loads. In this structural form the floor slabs transferring the lateral loads to
the shear walls and slabs should be act as diaphragms. The main point is the
connection between slab and shear-walls under severe stress concentration. The
performance of the connection between slab and shear walls can influence the
pattern and distribution of lateral forces among the vertical elements of the structure.
In this paper, behavior of shear wall-floor slab load transfer mechanism is investigated
by using finite element technique. A theoretical model is developed to predict behavior
of the load transfer between slab and shear walls. Results of the finite element analysis
are compared to the structural codes acceptances. Several variables are considered in

the numerical analysis and discussed as well.

SUMMARY
Earthquake is one of the most important natural disaster in our country and in Europe.
Limitation of displacement in linear analysis according to TEC 2007 and EC 8
regulations and limitation of damages is based accordingly. The purpose of these
regulations, depending on the size of the earthquake; undamaged, be repairable of big
earthquakes and if the earthquake is very big and the structure would be unrepairable,
should be the provision of safety. To compare the differences between TEC 2007 and
EC 8 regulations is important. Natural disasters are mostly earthquake. According to the
seismic design of reinforced concrete structures is carried out calculating status and
loadings. This earthquake situation allows us to see the most unfavorable internal forces
high probability of accurance of structural elements. Different methods are available for
the solution of various seismic regulations used in the world. Generally accepted in the
world and analysis of samples taken regulations methods. Reinforced concrete system
types: frame, wall, shear wall-frame, core and tubular systems. Regulations have
different from each other analysis methods for linear and nonlinear behavior. For TEC
2007 and EC 8, Equivalent lateral force analysis and Modal response spectrum analysis
methods are most common linear analysis methods in these regulations. In this study,
structural system of reinforced concrete frame, wall-frame and wall systems for building
area are the same, under the influence of horizontal and vertical loads of buildings with
different story heights TEC 2007 and EC 8 Equivalent lateral force method and Modal
spectral analysis method according to regulations. Solutions are given in several
diaghrams.

SUMMARY
Earthquake, one of the biggest challenges for structures is very effective in our country.
To design earthquake-resistant building, Specification for buildings to be built in
siesmic zones 2007 are used in our country. In order to do ideal design, codes should be
optimized. In this study, 47 different models were created. Structural systems, number
of storeys, seismic zones, slab types, live loads, soil and concrete classes were
compared. Variation of parameters which maximum displacement in two directions,
maximum value of effective relative storey drifts in two directions, maximum secondorder effect indicator, period, torsional and interstorey stiffness irregularities were
observed. Related graphics are provided. It was determined difference between values.
Comparison of the results obtained from studies are covered. Conditions on the
parameters of the effect of the change has been observed. Solutions obtained from this
study are given in several diaghrams.

SUMMARY
Fire makes our lives easier but if it can not be controlled can lead to terrible disaster. In
this study, the Istanbul subway fire scenarios used in, how they are created, and
materials used in the station, wagon and was told that benefited from which regulations.
Unwanted fire is a destructive force that causes many thousands of deaths and billions
of dollars of property loss each year. Fire can be reduce the probability of occurance,
but it is impossible to prevent all major fires. Tunnel fires are not a common case. The
first thing to be done is get rid of toxic fumes. Many studies have been done in the
world on fire, regulations and arranged a separate regulation was made especially for
the subway. There are no regulation in Turkey except building of Fire Protection and
TSE Regulation. In the subway and other underground structures NFPA and BS was
used to as well. Fire and smoke evacuation systems security is of the most importance.
Burning and fire, types of fire extinguishing methods, the effects of fire hazards in the
fire phase and the human body are discussed. Measures should be taken in context of
the subway fire safety, ventilation and smoke extraction systems, accounts, scenarios
that have been made as a result of the simulation program in the subway and finally the
world were mentioned in a large underground fire occurred. Fire safety measures in the
metro are analyzed in three categories; wagons, tunnels and stations. We focused on
large underground fire occurred in the world. In our country must have been a new
regulations about this issue. We need to rise above world standard about fire safety in
subway tunnels. We will expect legal arrengements and lots of developments about fire
safety in our country.
