Ash, a second career lawyer having previously qualified as doctor and registered medical

practitioner, specializes in asset and project financing in the transportation and energy
sectors. He has broad finance experience covering projects, moveable assets, general
banking and trade finance. He has advised airlines and operators, leasing companies,
banks and financial institutions on a large variety of transactions, including the
acquisition, financing, management, maintenance and leasing of moveable assets.
Ashs asset finance experience covers advising on numerous tax leases and operating
leases, JOLs, sale and lease-backs, portfolio refinancing and export credit financing of
aircraft, rolling stock and industrial equipment such as turbines. In addition, he has
extensive experience in all aspects of the procurement, financing, leasing and
maintenance of rolling stock gained in the UK market.

Ash has been involved with advising sponsors, commercial lenders and government/
multilateral institutions on landmark projects, particularly in South and South East Asia,
ranging from oil extraction and power generation (including renewable energy) to land
and shore transportation infrastructure (including ports and roads). His project finance
experience has mainly covered work in South and South East Asia, including, oil
extraction and processing, power generation, port development and renewable energy.
His trade finance experience includes advising the arrangers in financing palm oil
products and crude oil derivatives. Ash has also acted on numerous corporate financings
both in the UK and in Asia, representing banks as well as borrowers.

Advised an Asian multilateral agency in relation to the restructuring of offshore


financing provided to a major international hotel groups operations in Kathmandu,
Nepal.
Advised a major diversified shipping group in relation to the development of $450
million portside infrastructure in Singapore.
Advised a major diversified shipping group in relation to two joint ventures including a
partial disposition of existing port infrastructure and the development of an entirely
green-field site in Southeast Asia with its JV partner, with a combined value on
completion of about $1 billion.
Advised the largest private Indian bank, a major Japanese bank, a government lending
arm and other financiers in relation to a number of power, manufacturing/industrial and
port development financings in India.

Korea during the privatization of its electricity industry.

Advised the largest engine lessor globally on its largest ever new engine sale-andleaseback to a major Indian airline and its Asian engine leasing business on all its
engine leases to Asian airlines generally.
Advised a major leasing company in relation to the $990 million (including options)
purchase contract with the first all-Chinese commercial regional aircraft
manufacturer, as well as various other matters.
Advised a major German bank in relation to a bespoke and innovative interest rate
derivative to finance the acquisition of freight aircraft, secured on a complex set of
leases/subleases and aircraft assets.
Advised a major Swiss bank in relation to a number of business jet financings.
Advised a major Asian low cost carrier in relation to PDP Financing of 20 Boeing
Aircraft, acquisition of used B747-400 aircraft from an insolvent company and
finance leasing thereof, purchase of ATR72 aircraft from manufacturer; purchase of
$21 billion of aircraft from Boeing; the purchase of 216 PW engines from Pratt &
Whitney; and a 100 aircraft purchase contract with Airbus.
Advised an Asian low cost carrier in relation to various commercial and financing
matters, including a pre-delivery financing of Airbus A320 aircraft, which won the
Airfinance Journal PDP Deal of the Year award in 2009.
Advised a major UK bank and its leasing arm in relation to finance leases of two
A330 aircraft to an Asian flag carrier.
Advised a major Asian low cost airline in relation to its A320Neo purchase order
from Airbus and associated engine purchase order contract.
Advised a major Japanese bank in relation to JOLs of Aircraft leased to a French
airline.
Advised a major Asian low cost carrier in relation to the multi-tiered tax lease
financing of 4 Airbus Aircraft.
Advised a number of banks, corporate entities and high net worth individuals/private
wealth offices on various business jet matters, including acquisition contracts,
operations, management contracts and financing.
Advising the lenders on a sale and leaseback of most of the domestic electricity
meters from a major Hong Kong electricity supplier to a Canadian offshore lessor
entity financed by a Scottish bank.
Advised the rating agencies on the securitization of a large portfolio of UK rolling
stock.
