Lets have a
Great Year!

Id like to welcome your child to my English class. Senior year is always a great year for
refining reading and writing skills that lead to success in college and career.
There are several resources that are available to you and your child that will help make the
year easier.
I have created a blog with handouts, explanations and samples of each of the
assignments that we will be doing this year: Rodiersclassblog.weebly.com.
Vocabulary assignments can be found at: chsengdept912.weebly.com.
Checkout the handy resources tab on Rodiersclassblog
I will send out regular missing assignment reminders through Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Please set that up immediately. If you do not currently have a Campus Portal User
Account, please send an e-mail to: Campus.portal@jefferson.kyschools.us. Provide your
name, childs name(s), school and contact phone number. If you want a login for both
parents/guardians, please provide both names. Once your information is verified, you will
receive an e-mail with login instructions. This is a great way for you & your child to keep
track of his or her grades. Students should also set up their school email accounts as that is
how the Counseling Office will keep them updated on deadlines. Students may also use
email to submit work for English class, although weekly writing conferences are part of their
grade.
My email is: anne.rodier@jefferson.kyschools.us
Student email is: first.last@stu.jefferson.kyschools.us
Your child will be expected to read extensively this year. Much of this reading is of the
students choice. We have a wide variety of materials available in the English department.
Although these books have been selected because of their literary merit, they may contain
material that you feel is inappropriate for your child. If you would prefer that your child not
make his or her reading selections independent of your guidance, please let me know and
we can work together to make sure that your child has materials that meet your approval.
Your child will be storing his or her writing in an electronic format this year. It is important
that he or she have internet access beyond the school day. Besides the obvious solutions of
home internet and library computers, Polaris Office is a free mobile application that is
compatible with Word documents so that students may use their cell phones to do their work
when not at school.
Ask your son or daughter for the link to the blog that he or she will create. This is
where writing will be kept. Making comments on students blogs is a great way to
dialogue about their career plans.
Your child will need to meet both Reading/English benchmarks this year. They will need to
get 20/18 on the ACT. There are tons of practice sites on line, but here are two to get you
started:

Im looking forward to working together with you and your child to make this a great last
year of high school and good preparation for college and career. Please check and sign
