Instructions:

Children's hat patterns should be all about


whimsicality, color, and texture. Her Royal
Highness Hat hits the mark for all three. This
adorable knit hat pattern is an ode to purple,
pink, and sweet applique gemstones. This hat is
perfect for your little princess as she braves the
wildness of the backyard sandbox or tames the
fire-breathing dragon (AKA the family dog). This
hat is a charming option for mild winter
afternoons or cool spring nights.

CO 48 sts, PM and join for working in the round.


Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2.
Switch to stockinette and work until hat is 8
from CO edge.
Decrease:
Row 1: K2tog, K2 around
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: K2tog, k1 around
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: K2tog around
Cut yarn, leaving long tail.
Using tapestry needle run through remaining
stitches and pull tightly. Weave in ends.
Gems:
Chain 4, sl st to beginning ch to form a ring.
Work 12 dc into ring.
Sl st into beginning dc to join.
Weave in ends. Stitch to hat.

Some baby knits are so cute we could just eat


them up. The Loveable Little Stem Hat is one of
those adorable knit baby hat patterns we can't
resist. This simple striped baby hat is adorned
with a sweet stem, giving the pattern a touch of
whimsy. We love the Loveable Little Stem Hat in
the calming combination of blues as shown in
the photo, but a mix of pinks and other pastels
would be equally precious.

Cast on 73(82) stitches

Materials:
1 x 100g ball Kiddies Couture DK
Shade
100 Marine Stripe or DK of your
choice
Set of 4mm knitting needles

Wish Upon a Star Knit Baby Cap

Instructions:

This adorable baby hat pattern is a mix of


warmth and sweetness. The Wish Upon a Star
Knit Baby Cap is adorned with a precious
glowing star shooting across a field of calming
blue. This hat is knit with worsted weight wool,
which is perfect for keeping baby's tiny head
nice and cozy. Youll treasure this baby knit long
after your little guy outgrows it.

With blue, cast on 92 stitches. Join circle and


place a stitch marker. Work the 2x2 rib for 1."
Work stockinette stitch for the next 3.5."
Remember that when you work stockinette in
the round, you are knitting every round.
When the hat measures 4.5" from the cast on
edge, begin decreasing to shape the crown. Knit
for 39 stitches and then K2tog (knit 2 stitches
together).
Knit another 39 stitches and K2tog the final 2
stitches for a total of 90 stitches.
Knit another row, placing a stitch marker after
every 15 stitches.
To shape the crown, follow the chart, changing
to double pointed needles when necessary.

Materials:
Lion Brand Yarn Baby Wool in Medium
Dusty Blue and Creamy Off White
#7 (4.5mm) 16" circular knitting needles
#7 (4.5mm) double pointed knitting
needles
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Stitch markers
Size: Infant (0-24 months)
Gauge: 5 stitches = 1" / 6 rows = 1"

When 5 stitches remain on the needles, break


yarn and pull it through stitches. Tighten this
circle and weave in the end on the inside of the
hat. Weave in all other tails.
Cut 24" length of cream. Thread tapestry needle
and chain stitch the tail to your shooting star.

Instructions for Knitting Hat in the Round:

Keep an eye on your little one during recess


while she wears the Preschooler Rugby Hat.
This pretty pink and purple knit hat pattern is
the perfect mix of warmth and playfulness. Two
thick stripes and a giant fluffy pom pom adorn
this simple hat. Experiment with different colors
for a boys hat, or knit one in a solid color or
patterned colorway for an equally cute result.

CO 44 sts with Main Color (MC)


PM
Join in the round, being careful not to twist.
Round 1: K2, P2 to end of round
Repeat 5 times.
Continuing to work in MC, work in stockinette
stitch (st st) for 6 rnds (knit every round)
Use Contrasting Color (CC) for 2 rnd in st st
Work MC for 2 rnds in st st
Work CC for 2 rnds in st st

Set of 4 US15 (10.0 mm) DPNs (round

Tapestry needle
Sizes: Preschooler (3 - 4 years)

CO 44 sts with MC
Round 1: K2, P2 to end of round.
Repeat 5 times.
Continuing to work in MC, work in st st for 6

Switch to CC and work 2 rows st st
Work MC for 2 rows in st st

To shape crown, switch to DPNs when needed

Modern and masculine, the Asterisk Hat makes

pattern is a snug-fitting beanie with a subtle
and sophisticated stitch texture. This hat is
constructed with double moss stitch and
framed with a simple ribbed edge. Its perfect
for year-round wear.

Double moss stitch pattern (DMSP):


Row 1: *k1 p1* to end of row.
Row 2: *k1 p1* to end of row.
Row 3: *p1 k1* to end of row.
Row 4: *p1 k1* to end of row.

Materials:
Patons UK Wool Blend DK, 1 skein =
251m
4 4mm dpns or 4mm 16 circular needle
and 4 4mm dpns.
3 stitch markers
Size: Small (18 around, 8 high or Large (20
around, 9 high)
Gauge: 22sts and 30 rows = 4
Abbreviations:
ssk= slip 2 stitches knitwise, then knit them
together with left hand needle
psso = pass slipped stitch over

Tip: This pattern requires 4 dpns. The decreases


at the top are worked in 6 segments, 2 on each
dpn.
Cast on 102 (114) stitches, 34 (38) on each of
your 3 dpns (if youre using them).
Join in the round and place marker for
beginning of the row
Work in k2 p1 rib for 10 rows (or around 1).
Work in double moss stitch until hat measures
6 (7), ending on Row 3 of DMSP
Change to 4 dpns if you were using a circular
needle, ensuring you have 34 (36) stitches on
each of your 3 working needles.
Work set-up row: *p1, (k1 p1) 8 (9) times, pm,
k1 (p1 k1) 8 (9) times, (you should be at the end
of a needle)* to end of row.
Work Row 4 of DMSP, placing marker in the
middle of each dpn, i.e. after 17 (19) stitches,
dividing your stitches into 6 segments for
decreases.
Decrease:
Row 1: (ssk k1 *p1 k1* to two stitches before
marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk p1 *k1 p1* to
two stitches before end of dpn, k2tog ) three
times, 12 stitches decreased.
Row 2: (k2 *p1 k1* to one stitch before marker,
k1, slip marker, k1 p1 *k1 p1* to one stitch
before end of dpn, k1) three times.
Repeat these two rows 6 (7) more times. You
should have 18 stitches left.
Final Row: *sl1 k1 psso* to end of row. Cut the
yarn leaving 10'' tail. Thread this through the
remaining stitches and pull tight.
Sew over the hole a couple of times and weave
in any loose ends.

Random Factor Hat

rows of alternating colors. Don't let this unique
idea scare you; this pattern has an easy-tofollow randomization method. Knit with sock
yarn, this striped hat is perfect for a mild spring
day or a cool evening. This project makes the
perfect gift for math-lovers and hat-lovers alike.

Set parameters of random number generator


between 1 and 10. Alternatively, use a die.
Make list of random numbers, the sum of which
adds to about 80. Each of these random
numbers is the number of rows you will knit to
make a stripe.
CO 176 sts in the round using yarn color 1
K1, P1 for 12 rows
Using yarn color 1, K the first randomly
generated number of rows
Join yarn color 2, K the second randomly
generated number of rows
Alternate between yarn colors 1 and 2 until you
have knitted approx 56 rows since the end of
the rib (68 rows in total)
Decrease:
Continue working random number stripes as
you decrease. The decreases are worked over
30 rows. Last stripe should be made in yarn
color 1, extend number of rows in final stripe if
necessary.

Materials:
US size 1 (2.25 mm) double pointed
needles
Approx 100 yds of sock yarn in 2 solid
colors (50 yds of each color)
Random number generator or a die
Sizes: 22 diameter, but can be resized to 20
(CO 160 sts, K50 st st rnds before decreasing
and repeat decreases 10 times) or 24 (CO 192
sts, K 62 st st rnds before decreasing, and
repeat decreases 12 times)

Continue decreasing 11 sts each rnd until you
have 11 sts left.

Thread the long tail onto a needle, and slip the
8 remaining stitches onto the thread.

Pirouette Hat

Instructions:

Put a spin on the traditional knit hat pattern


with the Pirouette Hat. This beautiful salmoncolored hat is knit in a unique lace pattern that
has five stitch repeats and one extra stitch in
the round. This extra stitch gives the Pirouette
Hat a twirl effect, much like the arms of a tiny
ballerina. This pretty pink hat is the perfect
finishing touch to a cold weather ensemble,
adding just enough color and a hint of texture.

Note: To end of row" means to work 3 dpns


rather than 81 stitches.
CO 80 stitches, 30 on first needle, 25 on second,
25 on third. Work in k2 p2 rib for 8 rounds.
k1fb, k2, k2tog, yo *k3, k2tog, yo* until hat
measures 7''. You should end up working a
k2tog at the end of each dpn (and working the
next yo at the start of the following dpn).
For the last five stitches on last dpn before
decrease, only work k3 k2tog.
Decrease

Materials:
Less than 1 ball Malabrigo Worsted
Yarn (= less than 192m)
4.5mm/US 8 dpns

bulky winter hat. All grown up, the Handspun
Star Hat is a cozy yet elegant cable knit hat in a
soft color palette with a few tiny star buttons
for a sweet detail. This cute and cozy knit hat
makes a great gift, but its so sweet you may
want to keep it for yourself.

Size: Stretches to fit most heads.


Abbreviations:
CO = cast on
dpn = double pointed needle
pm = place marker
slm = slip marker
ssk = slip two stitches knitwise, then knit them
together with left hand needle
K2tog = knit two stitches together
C6F = slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and hold
to the front of your work, knit the next 3
stitches from left-hand needle, then the three
stitches from the cable needle
