COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an introductory course designed to expose students to technical drawing with an
emphasis on computer aided drafting (CAD) principles and practices. Students are introduced to
engineering software tools, blueprint reading, and design. 3D modeling skills will be developed using
PTC Creo.
CLASS FORMAT
All lectures are active learning sessions with lab exercises. Practice problems, projects, and
readings will be posted at the beginning of each unit. Class time will be given for independent practice
and project time; however this may not be enough for all students. Students should download software
on personal computers for additional work. Students may also see instructor to schedule lab time for
extra work.
COURSE GOALS
The course is designed to introduce students to technical drawing and engineering graphics. At
the end of the course the student will be proficient with the following:
-

Orthographic/multiview sketching
Single part 3D models
Assembly modeling
Engineering drawings
Dimensioning and notation
2D CAD

SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS
This course will demand your focus during individual work time, attention to detail, and ability to
finish work on time. In order to succeed you should follow these instructor suggestions:
-

Use limited work time in class wisely. If your project benchmarks are not on schedule, you must
spend time outside class. See instructor to schedule lab time.
You may ask other students for assistance. Seek out opportunities to assist classmates.
Use knowledge you have gained in courses in other subjects (Math, Science).
Ask questions. Give feedback.
Attend every class!
