Background of Study

Library Management System we proposed is to create integrated services for

members and administration of Lakewood School Library. This System is to
provide facilities for users to enter information into the system directly, insteadof
passing the information usually on paper. The system will bedesigned to provide
and manage the library including the borrowing, returning and searching of books.
Many library systems are operated manually by group of people. In such
situations manypeople involved in the process of managing the library such a way
that to keep recordsregarding the books & students (borrowers), check the books
manually, keep records onissued books etc. all these things have to be carried out
manually & if the library is large incontent handling is also a problem. On the other
hand keeping large amount of maintenanceworkers may cost a lot & it will not be
efficient for a library. Manual record keeping is alsonot a reliable method as people
tend to forget things.
The goal of this project is to provide simplicity as well as security
andefficiency to the management. Its main objective is to provide all thefunctions
of the library along with support of barcode reader. Thecontemporary system stores
the database information on a local computer, which cant be updated and accessed
on a remote computer or a computer inthe library network.

II. Statement of a Problem

III. Objectives

Develop a system that can replace the manual library managing system.
Develop a database which stores user details & book details.
Give reliable search facility for the users.
Administrator, librarian & users should have separate logins.
Create an easy to understand user friendly environment.

Attractive user interfaces to navigate through the system for the users.

IV. Paper Prototype

The Library Management System implements databases to make theexisting
system more efficient. It is difficult to catch defaulters in a usual library system,
but LMSsolves this problem by providing messages to the administrator
aboutthe fine to be paid and books to be returned. When a book is to be
borrowed, its barcode is read and is fed to LMS.When the administrator tries to
issue a book to a member, LMSchecks whether the member is allowed to
borrow books respective tohis limit.LMS also checks whether the book to be
issued is a reference book ornot. If the book is a reference book, it cannot be
issued. If the book has no restrictions it is issued to the member, and also the
members details is updated with the books that he has just borrowed.Any
member can search a book with its title name, or authors name.
