Notes by the composer

This is a straightforward, simple, and direct prelude on the hymn "In deepest need I cry to Thee..."
Be sure to choose a calm, relaxed tempo; at an eighth-note = MM 76 (adjustable depending on your
instrument and acoustics) the music should never sound rushed, but neither should it be so slow as
to render the melody unintelligible.

This is an effective prelude, especially in Lent.
