STRATEGIES

AND INTERNATIONAL

University
Seminar Room 4
Badia Fiesolana, Via dei Roccettini, 9 - San Domenico di Fiesole

16 JUNE 2016

INTRODUCTION
The civil war in Syria has international repercussions due to the ongoing multi-sided character of the
sectarian conflict and the involvement of all major global and regional powers. Despite the unending
violence and the perpetuation of the Syrian inferno, less scholarly attention has been given to the
intervention of the international community to mediate the war. The basic goal of this workshop is to
fill this gap, at least partially, by assessing the involvement of major international and regional actors
in the Syrian crisis. Toward this end, this workshop will gather scholars and practitioners in this field
to examine, among others, the following issues: the strategy of the United States, the intervention of
Russia, the European Unions action, Turkeys foreign policy, and Saudi Arabias involvement in the
Syrian civil war.
