Cultural Catastrophe Part 7

Pastor Kerry Wilson

Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
Last week we spoke of the fact that the church
is a counter culture. We examined movements
and how that those movements changed our
culture. We spoke of subcultures and how that
they coexist inside of a culture, yet have definitive
markings, (ie) clothes, social groups, etc. We
spoke of the hippie or beatnik movement in the
secular and how that it impacted culture and on
the spiritual side we spoke of the charismatic
movement and the effects that it has had on
today’s church.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
When the Lord spoke to me concerning the
issue of culture, I wasn’t quite sure of what He
was saying to me.
Was I supposed to minister on ways to impact
culture?
Was I to minister on the differences of heaven’s
culture versus the world’s culture ?
It turns out that I was to minister on how that
culture has changed the church!
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
What is the church? The church is a revelation
of the coming kingdom. A group of people
birthed into God’s plan for His creation. We are
here to portray the kingdom and the culture of
that kingdom, persuading mankind that this is
God’s restoration plan for them, whosoever will
come and partake of this call. This is the
importance of what we are doing, the kingdom
isn’t here yet but it is revealed in the life of men
and women individually and collectively as the
church.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
When I speak of changing or impacting culture
I am speaking of our lives representing the King
that is soon to come and the governmental
policies of that reign. What is the governmental
policies of this kingdom. “THE BIBLE” The reward
of the church is given in the thousand year
millennial reign of Christ. We have embraced and
revealed this government by our lives. We are
inviting people to join us, we are imploring
people to join us, because in the prophetic realm
we know that not all of mankind will accept the
call of God.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
We will administrate this government in the
thousand year millennial reign because we
have been disciplined and trained in
interpretation of the King’s law. God’s red-
man is rejecting Him based on his desire for
independence. It is an illusion, just as Lucifer’s
promises are a deception. Lucifer, his
deception and all those that partake will be
separated from God in rebellion for eternity.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• The nature of this kingdom is spiritual, when people
interpret it in the natural it will not make sense. It
makes them vulnerable to the lie. The majority of
mankind can’t wrap their mind around the fact that
there is an eternity. The lies of Satan for some of the
others has them convinced in some delusional realm of
being gods or levels of enlightenment. You are the
expression of the spiritual, that is why we must get out
of the natural. In the natural , it is the evolution of
species that creates the power and dominance. We are
all trying to crawl up and over everybody, plan for our
own security and future. You are making a grave
mistake, it is an illusion.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• The natural makes us respond to others and our
situations totally different than the spiritual.
• When the interpretation of God’s way becomes
entwined with the natural, we misrepresent God
and lose His presence, and then have to
manufacture His presence to give the illusion that
it remains spiritual. All of the cultural items we
term religious are still present, the buildings, the
icons, the terminology but His presence eludes
us.
• In the natural we understand the definition of “sacrifice” because
our culture teaches us that if you want something you begin to
make sacrifices, plans to accomplish that goal.
• We will go without in order to attain what we want……..
• The SECOND cultural catastrophe that I want to minister on pertains
to sacrifice. Sacrifice in the spiritual is different , it pertain more to
an offering…..
• What does God have to say on the issue, He says obedience is
better that sacrifice. We participate in God’s program to the degree
that we want and then sear our conscience by reminding ourselves
of what we gave up or participated in. We begin to substitute or
give that which is left over to God in assurance that “at least it is
something” .We have millions “sacrificing”, but very few obeying.
This is based on us assuming the role of God in our lives.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 6
“The Call”
• 6Andthe Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou
shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another
man.
• 7And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that
thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
• 8And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I
will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to
sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou
tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
• 9And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go
from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those
signs came to pass that day.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• Saul was given three signs of his call and confirmation
from God. All he had to do was to seek God for
direction and then put his hand to the task.
• 1) His father’s worried about him, but the donkeys are
found and safe….
• 2) Three men on the way to Bethel, one will give him
two loaves of bread….
• 3) Prophets coming down from a Philistine garrison
prophesying, Saul would prophesy with them…….. Saul
actually hid after this event ( “Behold, he hath hid
himself among the stuff”), probably trying to figure out
what was going on…
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• I don’t know how much Saul knew about
“theocracy”, but once he was anointed King, and
assumed the role of prophet we begin to see a
downward trend in his life.
• Biblical history tells us of his response in the
matter of Nahash the Ammonite (1 Samuel 11)
• What more could we ask for ? God would be
with us and handle our business, does this just
pertain to the spiritual. Did God leave our natural
life to us ?
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
“The Glory”
• Where was the “ark of the covenant” at this
time ? (Kirjath-jearim)
• Jonathan, Saul’s son made a raid on the
garrison of the Philistines. The Philistines
became afraid, then Saul blows the trumpet,
and says,”Let all the Hebrews hear”, Saul has
smitten a garrison of Philistines , and everyone
should gather to him at Gilgal.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• Why would Saul have to take the glory of
the battle, he was already king. Why did he
need the affirmation. The people were now
afraid because the Philistines were riled up.
Here is where Saul makes a grave error. He has
already assumed king, prophet role, but now
he enters the territory of the priest. He offers
sacrifices instead of waiting on Samuel. Saul
said, “ I forced myself” , the people were
scattered and I needed to unite them????
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• If I could analyze Saul today I would say that he
suffered from insecurity. Insecurity is defined as
anxiety when you feel vulnerable or insecure. It is
also lack of self confidence. Lacking stability,
troubled, lacking protection
• Fear and doubt lead to insecurity, guarded
jealousy
• This is the root of this second
warning
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• In order to understand insecurity, we must examine
what it means to be “secure”. The etymology of the
word secure means to “ be free from secret care”
• We are born into this world totally dependant upon
someone to take care of us. As we move into
adolescence we are driven by who is going to take care
of us. In a woman’s world, and in a man’s world. All of
the fear and doubt which we measure success or
power, the secret jealousy of not achieving. The
measure of this system. How we were raised, our
failures
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• I can’t read your minds, but this uncertainty of our natural
life has been exchanged for security in the spiritual realm.
• There is only one way to root this out of us!
• 5Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who
are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility
toward one another, because,
"God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble."[a] 6Humble yourselves,
therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you
up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he
cares for you.
• 8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Cultural Catastrophe
• Humility in my terms is a spiritual and social
acknowledged claim to the neutrality
concerning the competition of life.
• Humility is to acknowledge my place and
accept my calling in life and in ministry.
• Humility is to let go of that which I think are
mine and surrender them to the care of God,
knowing that promotion cometh not from the
east or the west but from the Lord.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• Humility is me not taking up for myself but
committing my enemies and gainsayers to His
care.
• Humility is not receiving praise and place given by
others but keeping in check who gets the glory
• If we are not willing to start at the root, then the
natural evolution will only be sermons that
render head knowledge and not heart change.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• 1Whatcauses fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come
from your desires that battle within you? 2You want something but
don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want.
You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.
3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong
motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. 4You
adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is
hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the
world becomes an enemy of God. 5Or do you think Scripture says
without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies
intensely?[a] 6But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
"God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble."[b]
• 7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee
from you.
Cultural Catastrophe Part 7
• You will note that both sections of scripture
used concerning humility or being humble
acknowledge a warning concerning the devil.
• You will be devoured and eaten up on the
inside by refusal to be admonished. To be
double minded is to be miserable……
Cultural Catastrophe Part 6
• 17AndSamuel said, When thou wast little in thine
own sight, wast thou not made the head of the
tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king
over Israel?
• 18And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said,
Go and utterly destroy the sinners the
Amalekites, and fight against them until they be
consumed.
• 19Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice
of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and
didst evil in the sight of the LORD?
Cultural Catastrophe Part 6
• 20AndSaul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the
voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the
LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of
Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
• 21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the
chief of the things which should have been utterly
destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.
• 22And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in
burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice
of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to hearken than the fat of rams.
• 23For
rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and
stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because
thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath
also rejected thee from being king.
• What is stubbornness, it is the refusal to listen to
someone else, believing that your way, idea, and
opinion is better. You don’t just get here, you
move here based on your autonomy. It becomes
idolatry in the sense that you worship your view.
• I can flat out show people in the Word of God
what it says and they will still do what they want !
• 20AndSaul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have
obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone
the way which the LORD sent me, and have
brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have
utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
• 21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and
oxen, the chief of the things which should
have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto
the LORD thy God in Gilgal
Cultural Catastrophe Part 6
• You see once you have come to know the
reality of the spiritual it changes you forever.
• To have known the presence of God is to long
for the presence of God and the peace that it
brings..
