Welcome to MGLA:
Hello MGLA Families. My name is Ryan Neesam and I will be your childs science lab teacher.
This is my tenth year teaching. I am extremely excited for the fun labs and projects we are
going to be completing this year! I am originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am married and
have two children Ava (5), Hadley (3) and Indy (dog). In my free time, I love to bike, travel and
hang out with friends and family. Please feel free to contact me whenever you have any
questions. I will always try to respond to your question in a timely manner. Good luck this year
and I am looking forward to working with you!!
Class content: Labs will be centered for K-5 from the following big ideas and the content being
taught in your childs class for the week.
1) Life Science:
a. All living things share common characteristics.
b. All living things share common needs.
c. Living things meet their needs through interactions with the environment.
d. The types and numbers of living things change over time.
2) Earth Science:
a. Heat energy inside Earth and radiation from the Sun provide energy for Earths
processes.
b. Physical forces, such as gravity, affect the movement of all matter on Earth and
throughout the universe.
c. Matter and energy move among Earths rocks and soil, atmosphere, water, and living
things.
d. Earth has changed over time and continues to change.
3) Physical Science:
a. Matter is made of particles too small to see.
b. Matter changes form and moves from place to place.
c. Energy changes from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed.

d. Physical forces affect the movement of all matter an Earth and throughout the
universe.
Global connections:
We will be focusing on important scientific findings and events that are that are currently
happening around the world using the newspaper, television and internet. Please be talking to
your child about important world scientific events to keep them in the loop!
Daily preparation and communication:
Your child will be responsible for coming to class every day prepared and ready to learn. The
-agendas will also be used as a communication tool with parents/g-uardians, please check your
childs agendas daily.
Grading:
Labs completed in class may be used for grades in your childs homeroom per your childs
teachers discretion. The following grading system will be used:

Discipline:
Students will be held accountable to what is written in the student handbook. They will be
disciplined according to the policy at the Military and Global Leadership Academy @ Marie G.
Davis.
