DEFINITION OF IMMERSIVE MULTIMEDIA

The term immersive multimedia refers to computer-generated simulation of reality with


physical, spatial and visual dimensions. This interactive technology is known as Virtual
Reality system. It is a computer-created environment that a user can experience through the
senses of sight, hearing and touch.
Virtual reality systems can simulate everything from a walk-through of a building prior to
construction to simulations of aircraft flight and three dimensional computer games.
Immersive technologies and virtual reality are powerful and compelling computer
applications by which humans can interface and interact with computer generated
environments in a way that mimics real life sense engagement. It is used by architects,
science and engineering researchers, and the arts, entertainment and video games industry.

DEFINITION OF IMMERSIVE MULTIMEDIA OF ENTERTAINMENT

In the context of entertainment, the term immersive multimedia refers to software


applications that allows its users to take on different roles and live in different environments
and lifestyles. It is a modern form of entertainment that comprises of interactive content used
to engage the audience and it contains personality driven entertainment.
This type of entertainment is getting huge due to the exciting facilities and features they are
offering to the people. Video game makers are working to take the gaming experience to the
level of a virtual reality through the design of special headgear, 3D glasses and walking
equipment.

Avatar, an American science fiction epic film written and directed by film director, producer,
screenwriter, editor, and inventor James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe
Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang, was first released in
London On December 10, 2009 by Twentieth Century Fox, headquartered in Century City,
Los Angeles.
The film is set in the year 2154 on Pandora, a moon in the Alpha Centauri star system.
Humans are engaged in mining Pandora's reserves of a precious mineral, while the Na'via
race of indigenous humanoidsresist the colonists' expansion, which threatens the continued
existence of the Na'vi and the Pandoran ecosystem. The film's title refers to the genetically
engineered bodies used by the film's characters to interact with the Na'vi.
The film was released in traditional 2-D, as well as 3-D, RealD 3D, Dolby 3D, and IMAX 3D
formats. Avatar is officially budgeted at $237 million; other estimates put the cost at $280
310 million to produce and $150 million for marketing. The film is being touted as a
breakthrough in terms of filmmaking technology, for its development of 3D viewing
and stereoscopic filmmaking with cameras that were specially designed for the film's
production.
The movie provides a convincing portrayal of a total virtual reality experience, and the
interplay between virtual reality, the reality of earth-born humans, some of whom animated
the avatars, and the different reality of the Na'vi. The film presented visions of a reality that I
could not have imagined before viewing.
