ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

The mass of an electric motor is 120kg and it runs at 1500r.p.m. the armature
mass is 35kg and its C.G lies 0.5 mm form the axis of rotation. The motor is
mounted on live springs of negligible damping so that the force transmitted is
one-eleventh of the impressed force. Assume that the mass of the motor is
equality distributed among the five springs. Determine :
(i)
Stiffness of each spring
(ii) Dynamic force transmitted to the base at the operating speed.
(iii) Natural frequency of the system.
In a single degree of damped vibrating system, a suspended mass of 7.5kg makes
60 oscillations in 35sec when disturbed from its equilibrium position. The
amplitude decreases to 0.4 of the initial value after 7 oscillations. Determine: (i)
stiffness of the spring, (ii) the logarithmic decrement, (iii) damping factor and (iv)
damping co-efficient.
A shaft of dia 25mm carries at its centre a mass of 1 kg. it is supported by two
short bearings, the centre distance of which is 700mm. find the whirling speed :
(i) Neglecting the mass of the shaft, and (ii) considering the mass of the shaft. The
density of shaft material is 40,000kg/m3. Take E = 210GN/m2.
