A literacy is at the heart of basic education for all and is essential for
eradicating poverty, reducing child morality, curbing population growth,
achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development.
Celebrations were held around the world to mark this day.
To create sense and awareness about the value of literacy and education
on 8th September 16 World Literacy Day was celebrated in Delhi Public
School, Ludhiana with full fervor. Many activities were lined up to
celebrate the day. Pratham books publication initiated for the same and
the book The Elephant Bird was introduced.
Teachers of class III also read the book and discussed about the magical
bird, and the brave and curious child. They explained how a little girl
found the horse and told the villagers that elephant bird had not
swallowed the horse and also discussed about the endangered animals
and birds during circle time.
Thus, all the classes took a lot of initiative in their own
way and this created an interest for them to read a book
further.
As reading is an integral part of life and we always
encourage our children to read different books so this
program proved thriving in taking our steps forward
reach our goals.
