DEFINICIONES PREVIAS
1. DEFINICIN
Una funcin de A (conjunto de partida) en B (conjunto de llegada) es una regla que asocia a un
elemento x del conjunto A un nico elemento y del conjunto B.
Para denotar que f es una funcin de A en B, se escribe:

Si dom(f) = A, se dice que f es una aplicacin.

Hallar el dominio de cada funcin:

Hallar el rango de una funcin es muy importante , sobre todo para hallar la inversa de la
funcin, si existe.
Trataremos dos casos: cuando la funcin est definida en todo su dominio y cuando el dominio
de la funcin es restringido.
CASO 1
Cuando la funcin est definida en todo su dominio, bastar despejar x en trminos de y, para
luego analizar que valores reales toma x para que y sea real.
Ejemplo 2:

CASO 2
Cuando el dominio est en un intervalo restringido. Para hallar los intervalos que contienen a y,

3. FUNCIN LINEAL
Es aquella funcin con dominio R, cuya regla de correspondencia es:

donde m y b son constantes y m 0.
Su grfica es una recta cuya pendiente es m = tg y su ordenada en el origen es b.

Observacin: Si m > 0, el ngulo , que forma la recta con el eje X es agudo.
Si m < 0, el ngulo , que forma la recta con el eje X es obtuso.
Adems,:

4. FUNCIN CUADRTICA
Es aquella funcin con dominio R y definida por la regla de correspondencia:

donde a, b y c son constantes y a 0.

El vrtice de la parbola V(h,k), se puede ubicar transformando la funcin a la forma:

7. FUNCIN RACIONAL
Si f y g son funciones polinmicas, la funcin f, cuya regla de correspondencia es:

El dominio de una funcin racional es el conjunto de los nmeros reales tales que g(x) 0.
