This is an interesting start to the story because I have a lot of older aunts and uncles who believe that if
you try and change or remove thier language that you are messing with a part of thier identity. It's
intertesting to see these types of scenarios because I will see many things similarly related because I
want to be a Spanish teacher. Along with language come a lot of personal and emotional ties that can
influence the lifestlye and way of thinking of a person or group of people.

This sense of identity and language can also be associated with nationalism, if an immigrant famliy the
one of the story is trying to assimilate to the dominante culture then more traditional people such as
grand parents or senior citizens can feel targeted or vicitimezed due to these changes since it is
changing all they know for something new or "better."

This concept of intellectual thinking referred to as "not-learn" is very interesting because these people
are making a concious effort to learn the dominant culture or what is being taught out of
self-appreciation or self-value.

Thinking of not-learning as a healthy and normal function kind of worries me because if we are
constantly teaching to defy or indentify so much we could be supporting radicals or martyrs. I have
"not-learn"ed myself and I can only recall it to be detramental. Whenever I did not want to learn
something it did not have a positive side but rather was due to fatigue, laziness or being irresponsible.
Overall I can see how it can be helpful but I stand by thinking it does not help the student be successful.

How far does a "not-learn" mentality go? Do students not want to learn certain things or everything.
Limiting ones experiences seems wrong but effective for certain people.

In this defiance I can see the "hero" role an individual plays but again it all comes down to perspective
and the motive to why they do not want to learn. All I've deciphered from this is that students have a
concisous decision to learn and not learn and will do so accordingly.

These types of stories are really interesting to read and are for the most part relateable but I cannot
seem to shake the fact that they are target specific. All of the story supports the arguement and does
not do a good job in showing multiple perspectives. Bias
