wasnotgoingtowinagainsttherebelcolonistsandshecontinuedtoexpresswhyandhowshe

slavesthatwrotethispetitionusedthesameargumentthatthecolonistshadoftaxationwhen
theyjustifiedtherebellionagainsttheKingofgreatBritain.TheywroteWeapprehend
ourselvestobeAggrieved,inthatwhilewearenotallowedthePrivilegeoffreemenoftheState
havingnovoteorInfluenceintheElectionofthosethatTaxusyetmanyofourColourhave
cheerfullyEnteredthefieldofBattleindefenseoftheCommonCauseandthatagainstasimilar

andopinions,whichsogenerallyprevailswithrespecttousandthatyoursentimentsare
concurrentwithmine,whichare,thatoneuniversalFatherhathgivenbeingtousallandthathe

thoseoftheothercolorsofmen,andthattheappearanceofawantofthemisowingmerelyto

goodjobinthecolonies.
TheSocialHierarchywithintheUScoloniesaftertheAmericanrevolutionchangedquite
abitfromwhatitwasbefore.Whilesomehistoriansmaydenytheclaimsbecausenotall
evidencesupportsthisidea100%,itstillittrue.AfricanAmericans,women,andotherminorities

wereallowedtospeakoutforwhattheybelievedinandtheybegantoshapeAmericaaswe
knowitastoday.
