Judi Sandrock
Judi Sandrock has twenty one years of experience in medium to large corporate environments, as well as being successful as an entrepreneur. She has extensive
experience in the Mining Industry, as well as in Industrial Process Industries, and product and market development.
She has been involved in the Knowledge Management field since 1998, after being coached in Memphis by Bob Buckman and Melissie Rumizen, experts and
authors in the field.
Judi lectures in Knowledge Management for a number of Post Graduate – including MBA - courses at Wits, Pretoria and Johannesburg Universities. In
addition, she has presented at over fifty South African Leadership and Knowledge Management-related events, and several international conferences, including
key-note addresses. She is the national facilitator and founder of the South African Knowledge Management Practitioner's Group, which has grown to over
four hundred members in four regions. Judi has developed a reputation for being the South African expert in the field of managing in the knowledge economy,
as well as attracting attention on the international front. Her qualifications are in Chemical Engineering, Industrial and Applied Chemistry (Wits), Project
Management, Marketing Management and holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. In addition she has written a book on the practical
implementation of knowledge management in organisations titles “The Art of Managing Knowledge – a Practitioner's Guide”, and is currently writing a second
book “Navigating the Knowledge Economy”.
Dr Kobena Hanson
Dr Hanson is the Head of Knowledge & Learning at the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF). He has over 15 years professional experience in
international development. Prior to joining ACBF, he served as Knowledge Management Coordinator of the Ghana SHARP Project .He has also worked as an
Assistant Professor of Development Geography/Urban Planning at West Virginia University, Morgantown, Policy Analyst with the Social Planning Council of
Kingston and Area, Canada and Research Associate with the Population Impact Project in Ghana. Dr. Hanson is an alumnus of Queen's University, Canada ,
the Institute of Social Studies, Netherlands and the University of Ghana, Legon.
Thami Magele
Thami Magele is a Productivity & Capacity Manager within Eskom Enterprise's Capital Expansion Department. She joined Eskom in January 2008 as a KM
Senior Advisor.
Thami's academic background is in Corporate Communications and Information Science. Her knowledge Management career started in 2004 with
PricewaterhouseCoopers as a KM consultant in Governance Risk & Compliance and the Advisory division. She also has experience in ICT consulting where
as a Research Consultant wrote, amongst a few, a White Paper on E-Security in South Africa which was prepared for IT portfolio holders within local
provincial and national government departments. In her career she had an opportunity to be invited as a panelist for the world International forum on e-security
and cryptography organised by IT web. She presented at the 2007 'KM and Innovation in the Public Sector' conference on behalf of Productivity SA.
Before Joining Eskom, Thami was a Business Information Consultant with Sasol Technology.
Hakeem Pedro
Hakeem has a BA from the Huston Tilottson University, Texas USA, MDP from Abbot Laboratories, Austin, Texas,MBA from LeTourneau University Texas
USA and Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification USA,
Mr Pedro currently currently works at Eskom as an Executive Manager :Capital Productivity
He has more than 23 yrs of solutions-focused team leader, with extensive international experience directing critical business initiatives to boost productivity
and efficiency. He is a great liaison manager, known for building strategic partnerships and alliances and a Certified Project Management Professional
Marcus Rance
Marcus is a Knowledge Management Consultant at i-Kno Knowledge Solutions. A Masters student in Information Science (MIS) at the University of Pretoria,
exploring “The applicability of Wilson's 1996 model of human information behaviour in the use of Web 2.0 and Social networking tools in Academic
contexts”. He currently holds a Hons. BIS from the same institution.
Currently, Marcus is working on the “Emthonjeni Wolwazi – a wellspring of knowledge” Forum, which is a grouping of KM practitioners in Government, and
has recently, initiated a project on the African Knowledge Management Awards with Steve Banhegyi.
Marcus holds certificates from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) as well as Wits Business School (WBS).He has a keen interest in breaking
new grounds in the field of KM as well as exploring various ways of improving KM in South Africa and the region.
Dr Thomas Groenewald
Dr Groenewald has a BA, BA ( Hons) Training Management, MA: Human Resource Management and Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership in Performance and
change all at RAU.
He is also has various diplomas and certificate, is Master Human Resource Practitioner (MHRP) SA Board of Personnel Practice & acknowledged Mentor
(SABPP). He is currently the Process Manager: Cooperative Education at the University of South Africa.
Dina van Heerden
Dina is a Snr Business Analyst and ECM Expert at i-Kno Knowledge Solutions. She obtained her B.Com (Commercial and Computer Sciences) from the UP in
1988. She worked at Infoplan from 1989 which later became SITA.
Dina was initially involved in programming and system analysis in the information environment of the Defense Force. The last 10 years her focus moved to
the ECM field in terms of business, systems analysis and consultation on ECM solutions in various government departments like The Presidency and
Correctional Services. She is currently involved in the business analysis and Open-source product-specific implementations of ECM solutions at clients like
BioPad and the North West University.
Marina Hiscock
Marina has been involved in leading, developing and implementing Knowledge Management since 1997. She has a well-established network within the South
African and international KM community. She is a firm believer of sharing knowledge with people who may thereby gain the ability to act or make informed
decisions. She has presented at numerous international conferences and formed strong relationships with KM experts globally.
Marina holds a MPhil in Information and Knowledge Management Philosophy at the University of Stellenbosch. She also holds a BA degree in Industrial
Psychology and Communication. Marina currently holds the position of Executive, Head of Knowledge Management at Barloworld Logistics focusing on the
International business.

Sharon van Biljon
Sharon is Knowledge Manager at GBS, IBM in South Africa. She is a corporate Information Manager and a Knowledge Manager and performs both these roles
at IBM. Her users are all of IBM's consultants in Cape Town and Johannesburg who work on projects across multi-disciplinary sectors. Her focus is on
marketing IBM South Africa's knowledge in the company globally to ensure South Africans add value to IBM projects across the globe.
She attended four universities, obtaining five qualifications, four at post-graduate level. Among them, the Post-graduate Diploma in Information and
Knowledge Management (cum laude) and a Masters degree in Knowledge Management, the latter at the University of Stellenbosch.
She is a regular speaker on the Knowledge Management circuit, but also devotes time to engage with companies, Government, students and universities to
ensure Knowledge Management finds its rightful place in multiple sectors. She serves on the Steering Committee of a Knowledge Management Practitioner
Group and as an Advisory Committee member for BCom IT Management and BCom Hons (IT Management) at the University of Johannesburg. She is also a
mentor to three budding Knowledge Managers, one the private sector and two in Government.
Vincent Coetzee
Vincent completed a BSc degree with Computer Science and Information Technology as well as a Masters degree in Business Administration, (MBA) at the
University of Pretoria. His MBA thesis was “Electronic Document Management and Information Systems: Misconceptions, Successes and Failures”
highlighting the areas where systems fail due to inadequate pre-preparation of environments before Knowledge Management or Electronic Document
Management Systems are deployed.
Vincent is a cofounder and director of the Belay group of companies. His main focus over the years has been on Knowledge Management and the analysis of
information needs within organisations.
Professor Zak van Straaten
Professor Zak Van Straaten was educated at Rhodes and Oxford Universities.
He has held these positions, Lecturer at Rhodes University, Assistant Professor of Logic. Northern Illinois University, Senior Lecturer in Logic; and Head of
Department at University of the Witwatersrand, Professor of Logic and Philosophy and Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, at the
University of Cape Town and Executive Director of KnowledgeTec at the Human Sciences Research Council
He is the author or editor of 5 books, and numerous research reports, has published more than 32 papers in international and local scholarly journals, delivered
more than 80 papers to local and international professional societies, academic depts. in universities, and special interest groups and conferences
He is currently a Partner in Pinoak Consulting, consulting in knowledge management strategy & implementation and knowledge management solutions
Roland Wagner
Roland is currently the Knowledge Management Manager at Productivity SA, formerly known as the National Productivity Institute (NPI). He has also been
involved within the management consulting environment for the last 10 years, having worked for international Lean and six sigma consulting firms in Europe
and South Africa. Roland became interested in Knowledge Management while consulting, and completed his masters degree in KM at the University of
Stellenbosch in 2007.
