1 The examiners won't read the essay sentence by sentences. They read the essay as a
whole. Then, they place the kid in a band. Then they see the errors made and may decide a
lower band if there are many errors. Try not to make spelling, punctuation and grammatical
errors.
2 There must be a flow in the story. Don't jump around.
3 It is not compulsory to add values or proverbs or idioms. Remember the word count. Do
not add many. Maybe one.
4 The essay can be made interesting with the use of adjectives/adverbs. You can write the
ending like this: had so much fun at the farm. It was an unforgettable/memorable experience,
I miss the fresh air and the amazing scenery. I am looking forward to the next holidays. I am
definitely going back to the farm. (example)
5 Make sure you write in paragraphs. That way you organize your essay.
6 Use words like delighted instead of happy, disheartened, exhausted, furious, anxious, etc.
These words are in the Textbook (Year 6). Use words like Then, After that, A little while later,
Soon, etc to connect your ideas and supporting details.
Finally, do not write complex sentences unless you are very confident. Just stick to
simple and compound sentences. Hope this helps. very good pupils can fend for
themselves...those with very good command of English. Those who are proficient. This is for
the above average/average pupils.
