Statement of Purpose

Applying for: Master's in Electrical engineering for fall 2015

When asked how much educated men were superior to those uneducated, Aristotle answered,
As much as the living are to the dead,aptly defines the importance of education in deciding how
successful a human will turn out to be irrespective of where he started from.
My aspiration is to acquire the knowledge and thereby give it back to the scientific community and
mankind in general in the long run. I sincerely believe that graduate education can help to mold a
creative, mature and inquisitive frame of mind. Hence, my aim is to pursue higher education by
doing my masters in an esteemed university, and thereby make a mark in the field of electrical
engineering especially in embedded systems. I have always envisaged a career in research;
wherewith I could always make a conscious effort towards the development of my subject of study
along with enriching my scope and knowledge in the field. While studying Electronics and
communication engineering as my undergraduate major, I found that Embedded system is one of
the best fields with many research possibilities and development opportunities. Hence I choose
electrical engineering with concentration in embedded system as my major. Belief and Faith are
the two little words that drive me.
Right from my school, I had a penchant towards Mathematics, Science and research in general.
This basic interest led me to take up Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as my major subjects in
high school. I was in always in a list of top 10 students during my entire schooling. My academic
performance conferred me with the admission in the best college of my state, Dharamsinh Desai
University (http://ddu.ac.in). Because of my predilection towards electronics, I got myself enrolled
in Electronics and communication department of above mentioned university. Here also, I graduate
near the top of my class of 140 students of Electronics and communication branch. In addition to
that, here I grabbed the opportunity to bolster my basics, to expand the horizons of my knowledge
and to fortify my quest to gain more and more knowledge. The ardor of the erudite professors
towards knowledge and keen interest of my peers towards technology have indeed played a
vigorous role in creating stimulating atmosphere for me.
During the course of my undergraduate study I was exposed to various courses with applications
like Linear Electronics, Programming in C and C++, Digital electronics, Electromagnetic field,
Control systems, Digital Signal Processing, Microprocessors & Micro Controllers, Wireless
communication, embedded systems enhanced my subject. I secured good results in my
engineering. I was well versed in programming languages like C, C++. During my undergraduate
studies I completed many projects which were mainly based on digital circuits, microcontrollers, C
Programming, Microprocessors, Wireless communication. I worked on projects like Automatic
Power Control for Home Appliances, Vehicle controlling and monitoring using mobile phone. My
academic result reflects my interest on Programming and embedded systems. I participated in
workshops like Mobile System at SVNIT, Surat which were quite useful for me in developing
good command over main subjects of electronics. I also did training on PLCs and SCADA at
SOFCON India Pvt Ltd to get good knowledge of programming.
Because of my acuteness in the field of microcontrollers and microprocessors, I got chance to do
my final year internship at KHS GmbH, Dortmund, Germany with my three other batch mates. I
was one among the four students who got chance to do internship at Germany. This internship

contained a project work titled Can Analyzer For Inspection Systems. I completed this project
which was mainly focused on advanced microprocessors like ATMEGA32 and CAN controller
under the guidance of German engineers. This internship invoked interest about automation, the
next genre of world.
After completing my under graduation studies, I started working in the field of automation at KHS
machinery PVT LTD located in Ahmedabad, India (http://www.khs.com/en/). I got training of
PLCs and basic electronic instruments. This work experience gave me good command over PLC
programming, HMI design, Servo controllers. I joined department of Electrical manufacturing and
made a comprehensive image in the field. My keenness about developing and understanding of
PLC software is advocated by my department head. I visited many plants of customers like Pepsi,
Coca-Cola, Carlsberg, United breweries etc. for installation and commissioning. This experience
enhanced my ability to express my thoughts and ideas to group of people and this task is quite easy
because of my good soft skills.
People often say that I must be considered as an ideal student being an intelligent, assiduous,
cooperative, calm and pragmatic person. I must dedicate the credit of my personality to my parents
who have never ever pressurized me to follow their belief and always believed in my dreams. My
father and mother both are government employees who have built their world around me and have
been my support and guide throughout.
Since the nature of undergraduate course does not offer enough scope for individual expression
and even the rapidly advancing technology calls for mastering a particular area, I require
specialized training to help me gain a competitive edge in this world, where new technology
evolves every day. Hence I believe graduate study with an objective of obtaining MS degree in
Electrical Engineering would give me an ideal opportunity to probe and unravel the intricacies of
my interested field and achieve my goals with greater amount of freedom. I firmly believe that my
visions can take a more concrete shape only through an intensive graduate program. To give life to
these dreams I need to be in a school, which has good research facilities, an inspiring environment,
good faculty and motivated research groups. I find your university to be motivating and provided
me with the necessary impetus to pursue my graduate studies. The website of your department
made me believe that graduate studies at California State University, Long Beach will provide
me an ambience of excellence and intellectual atmosphere apart from an integrated engineering.
As the department faculty consists of leading researchers engaged in frontier research, I shall be
honored to be part of it and contribute my bit to the research under the guidance of highly
respected professors of your university.
In this regard I strongly desire to be considered for admission with appropriate financial aid and
facilitate my higher studies at your esteemed university. I thank you for giving me an opportunity
