FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL

1. TOPIC
THE USE OF INTERACTIVE BLOG IN TEACHING INDONESIAN FOLKLORES TO
STUDENTS OF SMA N 3 SEMARANG
2. BACKGROUND OF THE TOPIC
In this globalization era, every people around the word have an obligation to know each
technology development which had happened. One of them is information medium progression
which is represented by Internet. The utilization of internet which often be used is the utilization
of blog. Almost three hundred million blogs which have been made in universe and they have
been spread in URL addresses. However, the utilization of blog is limit in sharing an article and
writing personal experiences. It is rare in using blog as teaching medium. Whereas we know that
blog will be more useful for teacher and student in studying certain material easily because it
does not need a paper. The application of blogs in education has become increasingly popular
from the early 2000s and the term of edublog appeared for the first time in 2002 with the
creation of Edublog Webring, a platform initiated by a community of teachers, technologists,
librarians etc (Duran. 2011)
3. REASON FOR CHOOSING THE TOPIC
By using interactive blog as a teaching medium in Senior-High School students, it will be an
alternative way which is used by teachers when they explain Indonesian folklores. Indonesian
has various folklores which spread in a variety provinces. Each province has its own folklores.
The most popular Indonesian folklores are usually in Java and Sumatra. The folklores also tell a
story that the setting come from the province of the folklore itself. By reading it, we will also
know the culture of the province like Javanese and Sundanese in Java and Batak and Minang in
Sumatra. It will be a good combination if Indonesian folklores learning using interactive blog as
the medium. It is very essential for both teachers and students. Moreover, by using blog as
teaching medium can minimization the use of paper, so that it includes a conservation step.
4. RESEARCH PROBLEM
From the background that have been explained above, by using interactive blog as a teaching
medium of Indonesian folklores also have a problem in its application. It must be introduced to
students before it will be applied in school. Other problems are:
a. How do the students make aware with the use of interactive blog?
b. What is the important utilization of blog in learning Indonesian folklores?
c. What is the purpose of learning Indonesian folklores through interactive blog?

5. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The objective of this study is to give alternative teaching medium for teacher in learning
Indonesian folklores, so that the students will be easier to understand the materials which had
been given by a teacher. It also can give another information to students that blog can be used as
teaching medium, so that they will be more familiar with it. Furthermore, the utilization of blog
in Indonesian folklores is a new way which can be a new innovative for both teachers and
students.
6. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Whatever the name is, recent empirical studies show that blogging can be a tool used to support
learning and teaching (Churchill, 2011). By using alternative blog as the medium of learning
Indonesian folklores, it will give new knowledge and comprehension to teachers and students
that development of science and technology will not be able to stop. In addition, this study will
give more alternative choices to both teachers and students in their way of learning. By using
alternative blog, the students will not have difficulties to write down them in paper anymore.
They just see the text in the blog. Then, the application of this study is also useful for English
learning because it will make the students to be more active by looking everything that given by
the teacher in the blog.
7. REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE
The using of interactive blog as the Indonesian folklores studys medium has proven accurately
that studying activities will be more attractive. The using of other media like power-point
presentation and flash has also been utilized by students when they do the assignment. The
research shows that students do not really like blog as the medium because they say that it is
complicated to be used. This study will find the best solution and new innovation for students
that blog is very useful.
8. RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES
This research approach is designed to comparative study. It is one of Qualitative research type.
Whereas, according to Clissett (2008, p. 100) qualitative research covers a wide range of
approaches for the exploration of human experience, perceptions, motivations and behaviors
and is concerned with the collection and analysis of words whether in the form of speech or
writing. While comparative study can be defined as Comparison of outcomes, results, responses,
etc for different techniques, therapeutic approaches or other inputs. So that, through this research
the writer will compare two different result of her research.
a. Object of the Study
This study is very essential for teachers and students especially in SMA N 3 Semarang who want
to give something different in their English lesson.

b. Role of the Researcher

The researcher has a responsibility to apply this study to teachers and students. So, the role of the
researcher is as the provider to reach the purpose of this study.
c. Procedures of Collecting Data
It is impossible to collect the data from respondent without any instrument. There will be several
instruments used by writer to get the data from respondents, for example an interview.
Meanwhile, to discover the causes of students pleasure when using blog in studying process, the
researcher will use interview. The interview will be conducted to validate the data.
d. Procedures of Analysing Data
To obtain data of this study, the writer uses standardized open ended interviews. According to
Turner (2010:756) Standardized open ended interviews are likely the most popular form of
interviewing utilized in research studies because of the nature of the open ended questions,
allowing the participants to fully express their viewpoints and experiences. The data from
interview will be analyzed by generalizing of the data.
e. Technique of Reporting Data
The result from the interview will be counted according to the students answer to each question.
After that, the researcher will transform it to percentage. The data will be shared in the form of
tables, one table for describing each group.
