Proposal summary:
Pre- Requisite: none
The Tourism and Entertainment industry continues to remain at the forefront of Jamaicas
economical back bone; as such, Entertainment Management in Tourism and Culture is a
necessity in todays education. This program will seek to unearth and sharpen the talents of
persons who want to become a part of the most vibrant occupation in the island. It will bridge the
gap between both education and entertainment allowing students to fully link both intellect and
talent. In this program persons will become in tuned with their bodies and surroundings through
instrumental liberation and spontaneity with the use of games, songs, dance and improvisation.
Through movement exploration, performance, observation, reading and carrying out researches
persons will heighten their awareness of the cultural, aesthetics and creative process of
performance. They will also gain problem solving skills through individual and group activities.
The Entertainment Management in Tourism and Culture program will allow the inhabitants of
Trelawny and its environs to become certified in a program enriched in culture and steeped in
aesthetical values. Its sole purpose is to give persons who are not skilled in an area, training in an
area of the Entertainment and Culture. It will also be used as a rehabilitation program for young
persons primarily young boys who are currently out of school and have not made the transitional
phase from boys to young adults.
The program will also cater to persons who are professionals and who feel the need to sharpen
their skills in various areas that would cater to their work environment e.g. teachers, budding
politicians, bank tellers, secretaries could major in Voice and Speech which delves in the areas of
(public speaking, diction, posture etc.) Persons who operate in the craft markets could hone their
skills in Art and Craft while getting a certificate showing their competency.
It is our hope that by working with other developmental organizations such as the Social
Development Commission (SDC) this program will be able to help with the rehabilitation of
persons in Trelawny and its environs. It is also our hope to get into the hotels and act as a filter
that will facilitate them with the best in entertainment and well groomed workers.
