FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Modern age is an age of excellence. As such, any educational institution worth

the name can only ill-afford to neglect this aspect while determining its aim. Ours is
an educational institution founded with the primary aim of offering ‘quality
education’ to our students. With the help of a batch of teachers who are not only
energetic and enthusiastic besides being imbued with a sense of devotion to their
profession, we are confident that we will never fail to achieve our ‘goal’.
Since our chief concern is our beloved students- their well-being and all-round
development of their personality, we will remain always prepared to extend all sorts
of personal care whenever deemed necessary. We also regard the respected guardians
of our students as an important ‘factor’ to be reckoned with and as such, it has been
decided to keep them informed of the performance of their wards at regular intervals.
We hope that our students will find their teachers helpful and they will have easy
access to them in hour their need. Moreover, they will find them their real ‘friend
philosopher and guide’.
With a congenial atmosphere supposed to be indispensable in respect of an
educational institution, let us hope that our beloved students will surely find their stay
here comfortable and their valuable days here worth spending. We also sincerely
believe that besides being blessed with a brilliant academic performance their stay in
this educational institution will turn them into individuals who, in course of time, will
find themselves capable of shouldering with courage and self-confidence, any duty
and responsibility they might be entrusted with.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Teenage is a very crucial stage in human life. This is the time of taking the
right decision which can change the future. At such an important and sensitive stage,
the teenagers have to come out from the careful supervision of parents after passing
the first board examination i.e. H.L.L.C. Hence, they need proper guidance, personal
care, quality education and latest information which can help them to choose the right
path to realize their goals. In this context, we can remember the comment made by the
famous European educationist John Adams,
 “Education is a conscious and deliberate process in which one’s personality
acts upon another in order to modify the development of that other by the
communication and manipulation of knowledge.”
Moreover, only the bookish knowledge is not sufficient for a student to face
the hurdles and challenges of practical life, especially in this highly competitive
present. They need other facilities along with the syllabic education so that they
become completely prepared with most up-to-date information, smart personality,
extra curricular qualifications and many more to the future.
The management of SJC is committed to try the level best to accomplish
almost all these requirements for the all-round development of students ensuing high
academic results.

THE INSTITUTION

Welcome to Sonari Junior College of Sonari Town, Sivasagar, Assam.

Presently it has been started in a rented building at Rajadhap, Opp. Charaideo
SDO(C) Office.
Our aim is to send students into the wider world prepared to pursue their
ambitions and enact the values and qualities expressed in the College motto Enter to
learn; go forth to serve. SJC, Sonari provides students with superior educational
opportunities in a caring, well-structured and supportive environment. Our general
focus is to develop young people of high academic caliber, integrity, social
conscience, warmth and courage.

HOW TO APPLY
Forms can be collected from the office of the Institution and submitted within the
notified time. Forms must be accompanied by:
• An attested copy of H.S.L.C. or equivalent examination marksheet.
• An attested copy of H.S.L.C. or equivalent Admit Card.
• An attested copy of Provisional Pass Certificate from the Head of the
Institution last attended.
 • An attested copy of Caste Certificate
• Three copies of recent passport size photographs.
ADMISSION

Admission to H.S. 1ST year Arts is based on marks obtained in the H.S.L.C. or
equivalent examination.
The College has a total number of 60 seats.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
Course Approval: Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council,
Guwahati
Course Duration: Two(2) years.
Subjects: English, Alternative English, Assamese (MIL), Education,
Political Science, History, Economics, Sociology,
Logic and Philosophy.
Subject Combination:
A. Core Subjects:
(i) English is compulsory
(ii) One of the MIL (Assamese) or Alternative English.
B. Elective Subjects:
A student can select a maximum of four subjects from the following.
Three of these will be compulsory.
1. Economics
2. Political Science
3. Sociology
4. Education
5. History
6. Logic and Philosophy
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The Institution will follow curriculum designed by the Assam Higher Secondary
Education Council, Guwahati but effective coordination will be set up with the
curriculum of CBSE and ICSE so as to make the students enable to prepare
themselves for various competitive examinations.
FREE TUTORIAL CLASSES
These are intensive sessions during which the teacher takes the student through a lot
of study materials. Tutorial classes are taken by a group of experienced and dedicated
teachers. No need of any Private Tuition for any student of SJC.
GUARDIAN - TEACHER
The concept of ‘Guardian Teacher’ for every 15 students, teachers help them in
academic as well as domestic problems and motivate them for achieving excellence
career. We are in constant touch of parents and keep informing the performance of
their wards through correspondence and meeting. Along with studies, students have
the facility to develop themselves in allied interests like indoor and outdoor sports,
reading and cultural activities.

FREE ADDITIONAL COURSES

Vocational courses like Computer Application and Spoken English are offered to the
students of SJC free of cost in order to make them prepared for any competitive
examination.
PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT GUIDANCE AND CAREER
COUNSELING
The Institution has its separate cell for Personality Development Guidance and Career
Counseling for its valued students.
FREE SEATS
The Institution provides free seats (free tuition fees, free admission fees, free study
materials) for two students belonging to economically backward section of the society
on merit basis. The Institution reserves the right to select these students.
HOSTEL FACILITY
The Institution runs two hostels (one for girls and one for boys) with limited number
of seats which are allotted in first-come-first-serve basis. One faculty member of SJC
is appointed as warden to look after the students and to maintain academic
atmosphere.
LIBRARY AND INTERNET
Library of SJC is rich with a collection of sufficient number of books, journals, daily
papers and magazines for HS students. Students can borrow books from the college
library against his/her Library Card from the college library but not more than two
books at a time and return the same within 15 days from the date of issue.
If a book is lost while in possession of a student, he or she must pay the actual price of
the book and also a fine of Rs. 50.00 (Rupees Fifty) only.
Before filling up of Council Examination form, a student must return books to the
College Library.
Broadband Internet facility is provided for students within the library. Students will
be given opportunity to publish their articles regularly in e-journals and social
websites like Twitter, Blogger, Facebook and Orkut.
CANTEEN
Canteen facilities are provided during college hours within the College campus. The
quality of food is constantly monitored by the college authority.
IDENTITY CARD AND LIBRARY CARD
All students are directed to collect their Identity cards and Library Cards at the time of
admission duly signed by the Principal. A student must carry his or her IC while
coming to the college.
UNIFORM
The College Uniform is compulsory for all students. The Uniform will be as follows:
Boys: Shirt, Pant, Black Shoe, White Socks and Necktie.
Sweater/Blazer in Winter Season.
Girls: Shirt, Skirts, Black Shoe, White Socks and Necktie.

ATTENDANCE
A student will have to achieve minimum 75% attendances as per AHSEC guide lines
failing which he or she will not be allowed to appear in the final examination.

EXAMINATION

(A) The Unit-test, Terminal and Test Examination will be held regularly as per
direction of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and dates of all
these Examinations will be notified by the Principal well in advance.
 (B) The First and Second Terminal Examination and Test Examination on all
subjects will be of 100 marks per subject.
(C) The Unit –Test will be conducted inside the class-room for duration of 45
minutes and the marks for each exam will be of 20 marks.
(D) The assignment and Home-work to be given to the students by subject-teacher
is compulsory.
If a student is fail to attend in one or more examinations as stated above, the
Guardian must apply to the Principal justifying the reason for absence, failing
which the student concerned may not be allow to appear in the Final Examination.

REGISTRATION
All newly admitted students of H.S. 1st year shall have to submit prescribed
Registration form along with the required fees for onward transmission to the AHSEC
for registration.
Students who have passed from the equivalent Examination of different Council or
Board other than SEBA shall be required to submit a Migration Certificate also.

Tuition fees for month of June will be taken at the time of admission.
July, Aug., Sept. to be paid in between 1st to 10th August.

CERTAIN RULES TO REMEMBER

• Classes will be start from 9 AM to 3 PM.

• At least 75% attendance in each subject is compulsory to be eligible for
appearing in the final examinations. Students failing to maintain this
attendance level will be penalized.
• Appearing in Terminal/Test examinations is compulsory, or else fine will be
imposed.
• Tutorial classes are compulsory for all students.
• Students must come to SJC in proper uniform. They should also bring Identity
Card and Library Card every day with them.
• Parents/Guardians must ensure the regular attendance of the student. Absent
student fine Rs.10 per day.
• Progress Report of the student will be sent regularly to the parents/guardian.
• Use of Cell Phone by the student is banned inside the College campus.
• Chewing of Gutkha, Pan-masala etc in campus is strictly prohibited.
• Ragging of any kind is completely prohibited.
• Indiscipline inside the campus will not be tolerated.
