Rebecca Gray Receives Licnesure


Labette Center would like to congratulate Rebecca
Gray on acquiring her clinical level licensure for social work. She is now a Licensed Specialist Clinical
Social Worker (LSCSW) in the State of Kansas.
Gray joined the LCMHS team on October 10th, 2011.
She was born and raised in Labette County. She attended Bartlett Grade School through the 8th grade,
and then continued through high school at Labette
County High School in Altamont, KS, graduating in
1992. She went on to receive her Associates degree
in Sociology in 2008 from Labette Community College, her Bachelors in Social Work from Pittsburg State University in 2010
and in 2011 her Masters in Social Work from Washburn University. Gray
received her practicum experience at the Childrens Advocacy Center in Pittsburg, KS and Four County Mental Health Center in Independence, KS, where
she worked as a Victim Services Intern for the Domestic Violence Survivors
Program. She has been a member of NASW (National Association of Social
Workers) since 2009.

New My Family Labette Coordinator


Labette Center welcomed Melanie Chappel to
our team as the new My Family Labette Coordinator. Melanie has been staying busy in
the community and working with families to
further the development of children ages prenatal to five years old. Melanie can be found at
the WIC clinics each month, as well as various
other functions the promote the development
of children. In the month of August Melanie
was able to enroll
seven new families and eight new
families in September! On September 30th she
participated in a
Community Baby
Shower where expectant or new mothers and fathers came to gain information for
caring for their new infants. For more information about the My

Active Parenting of Teens Course Being Held at


LCMHS
Labette Center will be holding an Active Parenting of Teens course
starting on Monday October 10th, 2016 from 6pm-8pm and continuing every Monday evening for 6 weeks. This course will be held in
the Centers community room. Dinner will be provided for all of those
who attend. The course is provided FREE to the community due to
grant funding. Interested individuals should contact Labette Center at
620-421-3770 or 800-303-3770 and ask for Renee Roberts or Virginia
Standley.
The Active Parenting Teens program is an interactive approached
program designed for small groups of 10 to 20 participants at a time.
Groups meet for six 2 hour sessions on a weekly basis. Parents received a comprehensive model for parenting teens and preteens. As a
model program it contains information and skills for parents including:
Understanding of parenting styles and the role of Active Parenting
Understanding and application of recent brain research on teen
development
Emphasis on character development as a means of equipping
teens to survive and thrive
Parenting skills necessary for developing qualities of courage,
cooperation, respect, responsibility and self-esteem and at the
same time how to handle behavioral problems.
Explanation of how to apply the model for the goal of prevention in the areas of substance use, sexuality, and violence.

Mental Health First Aid Course

Labette Center for Mental Health Services will be holding a Youth Mental
Health First Aid course on Tuesday January 31st, 2017 from 8:00 am to
5:00 pm and an Adult Mental Health First Aid course on April 4th, 2017.
These courses will be held at Labette Centers main facility located at 1730
Belmont Parsons KS in the community room. Participants must register
prior to the course. Materials, lunch, snacks and a light breakfast are provided. At this time the cost of the course is covered through grant funding
so no fees will apply.
