MISSION- Starbucks Coffees website states that the companys mission statement is To
inspire and nurture the human spirit one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time. This
mission statement reflects what Starbucks does to keep its business running. Such mission
statement has the following key components relevant to Starbucks:
1. Inspire and nurture the human spirit.
2. One person, one cup and one neighbor at a time.
VISSION- Starbucks Coffee does not readily present its vision statement. However, a careful
reading of the companys website reveals that its vision statement is to establish Starbucks as
the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining our uncompromising
principles while we grow. This vision statement has the following components relevant to
Starbucks:

The Starbucks Story
Our story began in 1971. Back then we were a roaster and retailer of whole bean and ground
coffee, tea and spices with a single store in Seattles Pike Place Market.
Today, we are privileged to connect with millions of customers every day with exceptional
products and more than 24,000 retail stores in 70 countries.
Folklore
Starbucks is named after the first mate in Herman Melvilles Moby Dick. Our logo is also
inspired by the sea featuring a twin-tailed siren from Greek mythology.
PLANNING- The first important thing of planning is setting a goal. Starbucks originated from a
little boy named Schultz who growing up in a poor family growing up. The Initial goal is he
wanted to have a coffee shop to help his father to realize the dream.
ORGANIZING- Starbucks has a matrix organizational structure, which is a hybrid mixture of
different features from the basic types of organizational structure. The following are the main

STAFFING- Starbucks has a strong legacy of progressive and responsible employment.

Our 160,000 partners (employees) in the U.S. represent the diverse communities they
serve. They include working parents, military spouses, students and even those young people for
whom putting on the green apron represents their first job all working to achieve their own
personal and career goals.
DIRECTING- When Starbucks decided to continue its global expansion by opening 1,500
coffee shops in China, CEO Howard Schultz consulted Ariel Investments L.L.C. President
Mellody Hobson and former PepsiCo executive Olden Lee, along with its other nine board
members.
CONTROLLING- As a successful company around the world. Starbucks have a suit of
wonderful controlling system for the employees and better to leading the all of stores in the same
standards. The good controlling mechanism could monitor progress towards goal achievement
and taking corrective action when progress isnt being made.
