PRE-SERVICE TEACHER TO COMPLETE SECTIONS 1-6

1. Background to Project
Identify the key issues giving rise to the project, explain the rationale for focusing on this project and make
reference to relevant educational theory and / or literature or policy.
This year I am placed at Edithvale Primary School in Foundation. For maths the three foundation classes are split up into
three groups that have been designed to focus on what the students mathematical needs are. For my ACP I have been
assigned to the support focus group. My ACP aim is that by the end of term 2 the support group can count, order and write
numbers 1-10.
I will use Teaching Primary Mathematics by George Booker as my reference/ recourse to guide my process. I will use the
book, and my mentor, as the more knowledgeable other to learn effective ways to deliver my lessons. This book is the
resource used by all staff throughout Edithvale Primary School. I will do further research to find other engaging activates or
games that will help the students reach the success criteria.

2. Project Aims
The aim of my ACP is to provide 6 engaging lessons to the support focus group so by the end of the last lesson they are able
to successfully count, order and write numbers 1-10.
I aim to be able to leave this resource behind at the school so the foundation team can use it again in years to come. I aim to
be able to take this resource with me for my future use.

members of the support focus group are able to successfully count, order and write numbers 1-10. Please see copy of the
sixth session for more detail.

Planning

I will need to plan each lesson to the best of my ability in order for the students
to reach my outcomes. I will make sure that I plan each lesson to suit the types
of learners I have in my group. I will make sure that after planning each lesson I
organise what resources I require and have them ready to go on the day.

Negotiating

I will negotiate with Jaime the best time and day to start and run the program.

Communicating

I will need to be in constant communication with Jaime throughout the program.

We will need to communicate to get the program started, we will continue our
communication after each lesson and I will finally communicate with her the
results of the program. I will also need clear communication with the students in
order for them to get the most out of the program.

Researching

I will need to research resources, actives and lesson ideas. I have been given a
valuable resource, the maths textbook, to help me get started but will need to
continue to research to make the program the best it can be.

Reporting

I will need to record and report back to Jaime my findings. Jaime will need
evidence that shows her that the students have reached the outcomes in order
for them to move onto the next section in their maths groups.
