Proteins

Proteins are polymer molecules.


The monomer molecules making up proteins are called amino acids
which are joined together by peptide bonds (polypeptide-multiple peptide
bonds)
There are 20 different naturally occurring amino acids.
There are over 100,000 combinations of amino acids forming known
proteins.
Have 4 levels of structure: primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary
(doesnt apply to all proteins)
Different chemical bonds are involved in Protein Structure

Same general structure: only different between each one is the nature of
the R group. Therfore R group defines an amino acid
