Question: How much does the volume of a LifeSaver Gummy increase after

soaking in water?
Garnet
Gummy #1-This gummy is shaped like small intertube measuring 3 cm diameter
and 1 cm diameter hole. This gummy is red and smells like artificial cherries. On the
bottom of the gummy are two indents that are oval shaped, one of the ovals has
two small punctures about the size of a pencil. There is a hole in the middle of the
gummy. The word Life is embossed on the top of the cube, and the word saver has
been crushed into the gummy so that it appears nearly flat. On the top side another
puncture is visible between the two words.

Gummy #2 -This gummy is shaped like small inner tube measuring 1.5 cm diameter
and 0.5 cm diameter hole. This gummy is coral pink and smells like artificial
raspberries. The gummy has been stretched into an oval shape instead of the
normal circle shape, of a LifeSaver Gummy. Two words have been embossed onto
the top of these gummies, one word is flattened and one is embossed higher. There
is one puncture on the bottom of the gummy, the puncture is about the size of the
tip of a sharpened pencil. On the bottom of the gummy is a long oval-like indent,
stretching across one side of the hole and continuing on the other.

Gummy #3- This gummy Is red, it is a semi round cylinder with a hole through the
middle, one side has somewhat clearly written write words embossed on the top
that read life savers. On the side of the gummy there are two hole as if something
was poked through the outer side. Then as well there are flat markings that have
been left from the manufacturing process on the bottom and sides of the gummy.

Measure the volume of each gummy with a scale

Pour 20 mL water into three small plastic cups
Set one gummy into each cup
Soak for 24 hours
Pour all remaining water into graduated cylinder
Remove each gummy carefully from its cup
Dry each gummy tenderly
Measure each gummy again

Lab Questions:
What was your method?
Our method involved soaking individual LifeSaver Gummies in 20 ml of water for 24
hours.
What can you conclude about the effectiveness of your method of measurement?
Our method of measurement was very accurate because a scale weighed our
LifeSaver exactly, as long as the initial weight of the tray is zeroed out.
What did you find to be the percentage increase of your LifeSavers soaked in
water?
We found the percentage change of a LifeSaver Gummy after soaking in water for
24 hours, is about 200%
How does the data or your experiences support your conclusion and why?
The data collected shows that there is about a 200% increase in size, allowing us to
give a conclusion that the gummies when soaked will grow increase their size by
200%. The data supports this because the conclusion is based off the evidence of
the data. If we were to change it from what our data says then our conclusion would
not be supported by our factual data.
What worked with your method? What did not?
What worked for our method was our weight measurements with using the scales to
weigh the Life Savers. One area that could have not worked as well was our water
volume measurements because we used a graduated cylinder that was read by
twos. There area for error would be in the inaccuracy of the reading of the cylinders
markings. This could result in inaccurate results.
