different industries, then the mid-point is set at the growth rate
for the economy.
Resources are allocated to the business units according to their
situation on the grid. The four cells of this matrix have been
called as stars, cash cows, question marks and dogs. Each of
these cells represents a particular type of business.

Question Mark :Question mark growing rapidly so its means consume large
amount of cash but have low market share its means it do not
generate much cash . it also know as problem child. it has
potential to gain market share and become star and also become
cash cow when market grow slows.If Question does not become
market leader then it designated into dog.
Star:Star generate large amount of cash because strong market share
and also consume large cash because of high market growth
rate.If a star can maintain its large market share, it will become a
cash cow when the market growth rate declines.
Cash Cow:Cash Cow is the leader in Mature market. In Cash Cow Relative
Market share is High and market growth rate is low.it generate
more cash than they consume .they extract more profit in little
investment. Cash cows provide the cash required to turn
question marks into market leaders, to cover the administrative
costs of the company, to fund research and development, to
service the corporate debt, and to pay dividends to shareholders.
