Activity 1
Title: Hello Everybody! JRI Pg. 6

Objectives:
-Students will be able to explore their speaking, and singing voices.
-Students will be able to move to the macrobeat.
-Students will be able to move to the microbeat.
Procedure:
1. Have students circle up and sit down while the teacher sings Sit
down (Sol-Do). The teacher then sings the song with students tapping
the macrobeat with spider fingers on their knees.
2. Next have students echo vocal sirens
-Teacher sings whoo whoo whoo starting low and then going
higher.
-Students echo using singing voice.
-Teacher chants this is my speaking voice then teacher sings
this is my singing voice
-Students echo, This is my speaking voice, this is my singing
voice
3. Teacher sings Hello Song again with students tapping the microbeat
with spider fingers on their knees.
4. Teacher sings whoo whoo whoo starting high and then going lower.
Teacher gestures to individual students to respond.
5. Teacher sings Ahh Ahh Ahh going low to high and high to low with
students echoing as a group.
6. Teacher sings song again and students join in if they know the
words.

Activity 2

Materials: Recorder, scarves
Notation of prep sequence: Bum, bum, bum flow with me.

Objectives:
-Students will be able to identify and sing the resting tone.
Procedure:
1. Teacher: Sing the song and move with flow to the song. Students
will flow with scarfs, using high and low space, while listening to the
song.
2. Teacher: The resting tone of is song is bum. (Teacher sings bum on
Sol) This is my gesture. Show the gesture. When you see my
gesture sing bum (Sol).
3. Teacher: Sing arpedgiated tonal patterns using the neutral syllable
bum, that occur in the song Grandma. Do this multiple times with
different patterns and have individuals and the group as a whole
respond.
4. Teacher: Sing song and move with flow. Students move with flow
with scarfs to the song.
5. Teacher: Sing song. When singing the song pause then gesture with
breath for students to sing the resting tone using neutral syllable
bum. Do this multiple times throughout the song and have
individuals and the group respond as a whole.

Activity 3
Title: Broom Dance JRI pg 194

Tonality: Major
Keyality: G
Materials: Recorder
Notation of prep sequence: Bum, bum, bum move with me.

Objectives:
-Students perform and identify rhythm patterns in duple meter.
-Students will be able to move to the macrobeat.
-Students will be able to move to the microbeat.
Procedure:
1. Have students get into a circle and stand up
2. Teacher: Sing the song, modeling moving to the macrobeat in heels.
Students move to the macrobeat in their heels.
3. Teacher: This is my gesture (show gesture.) When you see my
gesture echo me. Teacher chant rhythmic pattern on the syllable
bah.
4. Teacher: Sing Broom Dance and move to the microbeat with spider
fingers tapping legs. Students move with tapping the microbeat on
their legs.

5. Teacher chants patterns from the song on neutral syllable Bah.


Gesture for students as a group to echo the rhythm. After each rhythm
is chanted on Bah chant the rhythm again with the words that occur
in the song.
6. Teacher: Sing the song while moving to the macrobeat in heels and
tapping the microbeat with spider fingers on legs. Students move to
the macrobeat in heel and tapping the microbeat with spider fingers on
legs.

Activity 4
Title: March of the wooden Soldiers by Tchaikovsky

Materials: Listening Map enough copies for entire class, computer,
internet, and speakers.
Objectives:
-Students will be able to follow the listening map that matches what
they hear in the song.
Procedure:
1. Teacher: have students sit in a circle and listen to the song March of
the Wooden Soldiers by Tchaikovsky. While students are listening pass
out the map face down in front of them.
2. Teacher: Announce the Title and Composer of the song: March of
the Wooden Soldiers by Tchaikovsky
3. Teacher: Have students flip over their paper and teacher explains
the iconic notation as the lines go up the pitch goes up to. When the
lines move down the pitch is lower.
4. Teacher: Project listening map on the board. Play the song and
follow along with the listening map. Students: Students watch the
teacher as you trace the listening map while listening to the song.
5. Teacher: Play song again with tracing the listening map on the
board. Have students follow along on their own listening maps.
6. Teacher: Ask students if they noticed anything similar or different
throughout the song or what is notated on their listening map.
7. Teacher: if students notice pictures repeat, explain that this
happens because it is ABA form where the A section comes back again

just like the Sun picture. (See listening map below). Teacher can also
compare this to a sandwich/hamburger the A section is your bread that
is on top and bottom and the B section is the meat in the middle.
8. Teacher: Play song again with students following their listening
maps. This time do not trace along with them.

Activity 5

Materials: Recorder, tambourine
Notation of Prep Sequence: Bum Bum Bum Move with me

Objectives:
-Students will be able to move to the macrobeat in an unusual meter
(7/8.)
-Students will be able to move with continuous flow.
Procedure:
1. Teacher: Have students stand up and form a circle.

2. Teacher: Sing Greek Folk Song and stomp your feet to the macrobeat
and tap the tambourine to the macrobeat. In 7/8 it will be in 3 with a
subdivision of 3+2+2. Students will listen and watch you move.
3. Teacher: Sing the song and have students join in with stomping the
macrobeat. This time stomp around the circle moving to the right.
4. Teacher: Tell students to freeze and move with flow in self-space
when you stop playing the tambourine in the song. Compare moving
with flow to seaweed because seaweed has a loose spine and stays in
one place.
5. Teacher: Sing song and have students stomp to the beat and move
with continuous flow when you stop playing the tambourine. When
singing the song only play the tambourine the first time through each
section.
6. Teacher: Remind students to move in self-space and to have two
feet on the ground when moving with flow.
7. Teacher: Sing and stomp around the circle to the macrobeat of the
song. Stop playing the tambourine on the 2nd time of the repeat.
Students stomp to the macrobeat and move with flow in self-space
when the tambourine stops.

Activity 6
Title: Ive Got a Dog, Together in Harmony pg. 44
Meter: Usual Duple
Tonality: Minor
Keyality: D
Materials: Recorder, Rhythm Sticks
Notation of Prep Sequence: Bum Bum Bum Move with me

Objectives:
-Students will be able to perform microbeat with parallel movement
using rhythm sticks.
Procedure

1. Have students sit in a circle and tell students to Hide your hands
behind your back
2. Pass out two rhythm sticks to each student. Remind students to not
touch rhythm sticks or they will lose their privilege of playing with the
sticks.
3. Teacher: Have everyone pick up their rhythm sticks and
demonstrate the parallel movement of hitting both sticks on the
ground together. Have students imitate tapping sticks on the ground
with you.
4. Teacher: Sing the song while tapping the microbeat with rhythm
sticks on the floor. Students and teacher tap the microbeat with
rhythm sticks on the ground.
5. Teacher: Sing the song again while modeling the tapping of the
microbeat with rhythm sticks. Students should be tapping the sticks to
the microbeat. Students should move in self-space and not hit other
students with sticks.
