India is one of the worlds fastest growing economies and it is known for its service exports. With
the manufacturing sector contributing to just 24% as against it a 57% by the service sector the
MAKE in INDIA offer is a timely opportunity for India to be a manufacturing hub. The challenges
are large in volume, variety, velocity and veracity! Supply Chain in India has been ailing and the
Make in India objective will see this sector maligning the goals if timely consideration and action
is not implemented, given that 13% of total GDP in India is that of Supply chain costs, which is
almost double than that of developed countries.
The poor efficiencies in supply chain are due to lack of proper infrastructure, government
policies, tax structures, lack of technology adoption, weak distribution network etc. These issues
need to be addressed first to achieve desired goal of becoming manufacturing hub.
