Leadership 11 Seminar 3

Assignment 3

Homework due November 15th 8:30am

Next Seminar with Ms. Paul November 17th

Remember what personal leadership style you have from your last seminar #2:
Spontaneous Motivator: Is a combination of wind and red hot tamale
Driver: Is a combination of wind and cool cucumber
Relationship Master: Is a combination of water and red hot tamale
Analyst/Architect: Is a combination of water and cool cucumber
Water: I dont often voice strong opinions, particularly if I think it will cause hurt or be a waste of time. I
put others before myself pretty consistently. Im very flexible. You probably dont know really
know where I stand on issues, or what I think about you, unless you ask very directly. Its hard for
me to state my own needs.
Wind: I state my opinion and take stands easily. People know exactly what I think, feel and want. Im an
open book, and you dont even have to read the words because I tell them to you, especially if
you try to cross one of my lines. Fight or flight? Lets get real- I stay right here and tell it like it is. I
dont have a problem saying my way or the highway if need be.
Cool Cucumber: Emotionally cool
Red Hot Tamale: Emotionally hot

1. Think about an experience you have had recently (since the last seminar) where you
saw your leadership style in action.
On your weebly (On a Blog page):
1. Describe your experience in detail explaining how your leadership style affected
the outcome of the situation
2. Choose another style and imagine what the outcome might have looked like if
someone with that style addressed the situation
2. Regardless of your personal leadership style (motivator, relationship master,
architect or driver) all leaders need to know how to wear different hats depending
on different circumstances. We call this Situational Leadership. There are all
sorts of situations that arise that call for us to put on a different hat. For this
seminar we are going to look closely at 3 hats: Autocratic, Democratic, &
Servant. Please find your name underneath one of these categories below. You will
be responsible for researching this type of situational leadership.
Autocratic Leadership
Tess Whitworth
Summer Gleason
Michelle Liang
Izzy Fry
Ning Jiang
Sara Gerber

Democratic Leadership
Justin Fan
Amanda Wang
Kevin Wang
Casey Lake
Brody Lewis
Elizabeth McMullin
Steven Zhu

Servant Leadership
Jacqui Kelly
Summer Sprenger
Parsa Tehrani
Mackenzie Kerr
Jenny Ding
Jackie Holtby

On your weebly:
1. Define autocratic, democratic or servant leadership depending on which
category your name is in
2. Write a description of a leadership situation where this hat would be the best
one to wear

3. Write an explanation of what it would look like for people with your personal

leadership style to wear this hat (include the challenges as well as the benefits)
