1. Introduction
Desktop Deployment Planning Service (DDPS) presents key concepts and captures
environment requirements for the deployment of Microsoft Office and Windows 8 within an
organization. This document provides a summary of the topics discussed during the
engagement, as well as the vision and recommended next steps for deployment. In addition,
any conceptual, logical, or physical designs that were identified during the course of the
engagement have been captured in this document.
In this document, the migration planning from Windows 7-Clients with Office 2010 towards
Windows 8-Clients with Microsoft Office 2013 is described for our customer Dresdner
Verkehrsbetriebe AG.

2. Executive Summary
Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG engaged Comparex for a 1 day Desktop Deployment Planning
Service workshop. The purpose of this workshop was for all parties to better understand the
needs around desktop deployment and for Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG to better understand
the Microsoft Deployment Solution Accelerator and how the various topics presented can be
applied to meet their needs.
The workshop consisted of an initial Strategy Briefing Session, to determine Dresdner
Verkehrsbetriebe AG business and deployment goals and challenges, followed by an
Architectural Design Session to educate them on the Microsoft Deployment Solution
Accelerator.
Based on our findings a number of recommendations have been made which, if implemented,
will help your organization accelerate desktop deployment and put you in a stronger position for
implementing further automation and so continue to reduce the overall TCO of the desktop.

infrastructure:
Standardization of desktop configuration settings

Centralized administration of desktop configuration

2.1.2. Summary Additional Effort Required

The following are identified as the primary work elements in order to implement the majority of
changes mentioned above:
Plan for Windows 8 as the next corporate client operating system and validating existing
hardware and software for use with Windows 8

standardized and centrally managed desktop configuration settings
Design and implementation of a set of Office 2013 group policies in order to archive
standardized and centrally managed desktop configuration settings
