The primary objective of this paper is to present preliminary evidence that
suggests outsourcing has a place in our organization. To support this objective, it is
important to clarify certain characteristics about outsourcing. In doing so, this paper will
focus on the basic principles of the outsourcing process and its opposing viewpoints.
This paper will define what outsourcing and offshoring is and it will also analyze the
history, legalities, risks, advantages, and disadvantages of why corporations outsource
to other nations. This paper will define what outsourcing is as well as analyze the risks,
advantages, and disadvantages of why corporations outsource.
In addition, it also aims to show people that outsourcing really is a good thing for our
company in this economy.

Introduction
Purpose: The purpose of this formal report is to discuss the need that
companies have to outsource when their business experiences large growth. The report
will be focusing on the positive effects of outsourcing to an advertising agency, arguing
that even though there is usually increased competition for jobs, the company still
benefits from a choice of workers with new and enhanced skills.
Topic: Outsourcing in business.
Research question: Is outsourcing viable for a companys future?
Working thesis statement: It is imperative that Guthrie Enterprises enlists the
expertise of an experienced advertising agency in order to fully meet our current
marketing goals.

Scope: The report will show how outsourcing will improve service by providing
information from other companies that have utilized this option. The observed literature
used in my report deals with service outsourcing and offshoring (the outsourcing to a
service provider abroad) is very spread out. Some of the resource papers deal with the
outsourcing factors that affect the outsourcing decisions of a firm (Abraham and Taylor,
1996; Girma and Grg, 2004). Another topic the literature on service outsourcing is
dealing with is the effect of outsourcing on a firms success, in terms of productivity
increases of the outsourcing and/or offshoring firms; important contributions were made
by Fixler and Siegel (1999); Jiang and Qureshi (2006); Sako (2006).
Background: Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is very closely related to
service outsourcing since it can be seen as the outsourcing activity of a sub-group of
services. It is the process of hiring another company to handle business activities for
you that encompasses a number of functions that are considered "non-core" to the
primary business strategy. The observed literature dealing with service outsourcing and
offshoring (the outsourcing to a service provider abroad) is very much spread out.
All chosen sources analyze the relationship between productivity and service
outsourcing in general. Olsen (2006) provided text on outsourcing and its relationship to
efficiency and productivity. The degree to which services are outsourced is notated by
the paper of Amiti and Wei (2005). They find that the international outsourcing of
material inputs is still more important than the international outsourcing of services.
However, after taking a look at the dynamics of both outsourcing aspects, the growth
rate of service outsourcing is much higher when compared to the growth rate of material
outsourcing.

Discussion
Arguments: There is a point of view regarding outsourcing as a threat to
companies because
1. They fear it will reduce the career path at the client firm.
2. Companies lose control of process. Companies will lose control of the
outsourced process.
3. It could be a security risk because sensitive information is shared with vendor.
Concept Development:
1. The report will focus on how the rapidly increasing trend to use outsourcing to
cut costs and expand in an industry has led to an increased profit margin.
2. This concept is valid because there is strong evidence suggesting that
outsourcing is viable for a companys future.
3. The report will also address the negative issue surround outsourcing such as
too much completion in the job market.
4. Outsourcing is a valid and usefulness concept because it allows a company to
focus on its greatest capabilities while support services are assumed by an outside
provider.
Points to be developed:
I. For the introduction, I plan to find evidence proving my position, that
outsourcing services is an efficient solution to business wishing to expand. The

incentives associated with outsourcing allow companies to increase their focus on core
areas rather than the service aspect; because many contracted companies offers a
variety of services.
II. First, outsourcing can be considered reducing risk because an organization
shares it risk rather than carrying the entire responsibility alone, which minimizes
management issues.
III. Secondly, outsourcing may yield a faster product/service fulfillment because
there is a larger amount of resources that can be utilized appropriately to usher in better
results. Any business that manages to get the most quantity and best quality in
resources the fastest, and thereby manages to give the least of its own resources in
return, that business will be the most competitive and most successful.
IV. Outsourcing is a beneficial alternative when compared to in-house staff as it
pertains to wages and working hours.
V. Outsourcing has enhanced companies to stay ahead of their competition while
strengthening their position in the global market. Competition is getting fiercer and
society will see more survival of the fittest more often and in more dramatic ways in
today's economy. However, more often than not, success also comes with sharing and
when teaming up
VI. Outsourcing has produced unprecedented opportunities, threats, and
uncertainties for professionals and businesses amidst increasing access to a global
human capital, as well as a global marketplace.

Conclusion:
The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of business process outsourcing
on firm-level productivity. An improved production function approach is used which takes
in to account firms BPO activities. The results show that business process outsourcing
has a considerably positive and significant effect on firm-level productivity. This result
pertains to service firms as well as firms from the manufacturing sector. The research
factors indicate highly positive and significant estimations for firms involved in BPO for
service firms and/or manufacturing firms. The outsourcing of business processes to
external providers seems to be a good choice for firms because it allows managers to
focus on the core business of the firm. Moreover, the qualified and experienced work of
the service provider and the cost savings finally result in an improved business
performance.
Recommendation:
Determine what Guthrie Enterprises needs are (and at what level), based on past
performance, competitors service levels and customers demands. Then properly
define service levels in collaboration with outsourcing provider to ensure they
adequately understand them and will be able to fulfill the.
