Media Center Update

Works Consulted

The Media Center at Weldon STEM High

School Career Academies serves a
population of approximately 200 students.

Jones, P. (2007). Connecting young adults

and libraries in the 21st century. APLIS.
(20)2, 48-54.

Currently, it is in the final stages of a

renovation. New carpet was installed, the
walls were painted, old furniture and
outdated technology were removed. New
furniture has been selected to give the
Media Center a fresh, modern look
appropriate for high school students.

In our newly designed Media Center,

students will be able to enjoy a space that
will invite them to ask questions, explore,
and think critically. While there will be
space for students to simply sit down with
a book and relax, leisure areas have been
designed to support collaboration as well.
But, this is just the beginning and we want
to continue to work to provide students
the tools they need to compete with their
peers in surrounding areas, the state, the
nation, and the world. Our students need
access to current information and
technology. Students at schools with
better funded libraries tend to achieve
higher average reading scores, whether
their schools and communities are rich or
poor and whether adults in the community
are well or poorly educated (Jones 52).
A special thank you to Dr. Anitra Wells,
WCS Superintendent, and Mr. John Green,
WSHSCA Principal, for upgrading the
Media Center. Charger Pride!

WSHSCA VISION

the 21st Century.

WSHSCA PURPOSE
To SERVE our students
To PURSUE Excellence in Education
To INCREASE Proficiency and Growth
To GROW Academically and Professionally

If a school library successfully establishes this

climate for learning, it can be the positive basis
of a schools climate (Velasco).
