Sacks goal is to inform his audience the
outrage that has caused in Japan due to their
rejection on the subject, the movie Unbroken.
Also, to present their inhumanity or refuse to
accept their wrong even long after the war.

Angelina Jolies WWII drama Unbroken has drawn fire from the
Japanese.

Its pure fabrication, Hiromichi Moteki, the secretary general of the

Society for the Dissemination of Historical Fact, told Londons
Telegraph.
If there is no verification of the things [Zamperini] said, then anyone
can make such claims, he added. This movie has no credibility and is
immoral.

telling the story?

Do NOT just name the

author. What can you say
about the speaker based
on references from the
text?

Occasion

What is the time,

place, current
situation, context
in which the
author is
writing?

The time which the author describes in her

article is during the World War 2 after the
surrender of the last Axis, Japan. Not only she
speaks about the inhumanity that has occurred
during the war, but also occurring in todays
society, which she hopes to change.

Audience

Who is the

audience for the
piece?

Be certain to discuss and

Purpose

What is the goal of the

text? To encourage action?
To prove an idea? You will
have to decide what the
message is and how the
author wants the audience
to respond.

Ben-Ghiats purpose is to inform people about

the outcome of the war and the destruction of
self-individuality, humanity, and morals. Also,
she wants to let her audience know that the
victims of the war did not encounter war to
enslave humanity, but to learn humanity and
change the subsequent generations.

The audience is the whole world wide nation

and its peoples who have seen or known about
the war immoralities.

Evidence
of Purpose

quotations from
the text that
support the
authors purpose

The vast number of noncombatant, and the abuses and atrocities

suffered by millions of men, women and children, placed civilians at the
center of legal and other discussions at wars end.

What have we done for destiny to be so cruel to us? wrote an Italian

woman to her Italian solider fianc, who in December 1945 was still in a
British POW camp in India.
What remained was the casting of the war as a struggle between
democracy and forces that wished to enslave humanity. We are still
living with the new world order created 70 years ago, in World War 2s
ashes.

Choose a description of
the tone that fits the piece
as a whole. Include
specific words or phrases
from the text and explain
how they support your
statement.

During the war, many prisoners, women and

children were murdered and brutally killed
with nonsense reasons, that eventually hurt the
humanity and mankind. There shouldnt be any
more ashes of the war since the purpose of
ending the war was to change.

From the article, the tone of ambivalence can

be drawn out. When the author says We are
still living with the new world order created 70
years ago, In World War 2s ashes, the author
is desolate, but confused why the result long
after the war is still the same.
