With the rapid development of mobile communications technologies, multiple

network systems inevitably come into coexistence. In a typical scenario,
operators must deploy different networks resulting in high CAPEX and OPEX. To
address to this challenge, Huawei has been focusing on developing converged
multiple network systems to reduce operators expenditures.

As an important network element (NE) of Huaweis SingleRAN solution, the SRC

( Single Radio Controller) adopts industry-leading multiple radio access
technologies (RATs), an IP transmission mode, and a modular design. In
addition, it is integrated with UMTS RNC, GSM BSC, WLAN AC, and
eCoordinator functions thus effectively maintaining the trend of multi-RAT
convergence in mobile networks.
The SRC is flexibly and can be configured to manage GSM base stations, UMTS
base stations, CDMA base stations, WiFi-AP or to provide coordination function
for LTE base stations and inter-RAT (GSM, UMTS, LTE, WIFI).

Currently, the Single Radio Controller includes BSC6900, BSC6910 and

ECO6910. BSC6910 is the next generation of BSC6900 which is used for GSM
and UMTS base station management. ECO6910 provides coordination for GSM,
UMTS, LTE and WIFI networks.

High integration and low cost
The Single Radio Controller caters to the mobile network requirements for high
capacity with just a few sites, requiring less space in the equipment room and
reducing power consumption.
Easy configuration and convenient maintenance
The Single Radio Controller has six types of boards: interface processing
boards, O&M boards, switching processing boards, general processing boards,
and clock processing boards. The simplification of board types reduces the
number of spare parts as well as maintenance costs. Since they are not bound,
the interface processing boards and service processing boards are flexible in
configuration, easy to maintain and to expand.
Redundancy and High reliability
The Single Radio Controller provides RNC in Pool and BSC Node Redundancy
functions which support hot backup at the controller level. With this solution,
services can be recovered within 10 second to 15 minutes in the event of a
disaster. It offers a remarkable enhancement to the reliability of the MBB
network.
Inter-RAT coordination and high performance
The SRC (Single Radio Controller) works as the control center for all the radio
networks including GSM, UMTS, LTE and WiFi. It effectively coordinates proper
functioning over different RATs, improving the efficiency of all the networks, and
maximizing the network value.

All-IP platform meets the varying needs for network evolution
Based on its All-IP platform, the PS service performance of the Single Radio
Controller has greatly improved. The interfaces support IP transmission, which
provides sufficient bandwidth and saves transmission cost. Based on All-IP
platform, the Single Radio Controller conforms to the growing trend of
broadband in the radio network and meets the requirements for network
convergence and evolution.
Smooth evolution for investment protection
Based on a unified hardware platform, the Single Radio Controller can support
GSM, UMTS, LTE and WiFi network application simply by a software upgrade.
The infrastructure can be shared in 2G, 3G and 4G, which protects operators
investments.
