Email Scandal
The Clinton email scandal as a whole is a very intricate situation as there are many
answers found within the immense supply of information. Various sources display similar facts
to their readers which at times make it difficult to discover new information about the scandal.
However, in light of the recent FBI statement announcing the reopening of the email scandal, I
have been able to use my prior inquiry research to investigate and expand upon the complex
email dispute.
To ensure that I showcase my knowledge about the email scandal I decided to create an
FBI evidence board. I chose this type of genre because it walks the audience through my thought
processes as I came into contact with the scholarly articles. Furthermore, the audience can follow
the arrows on how I pieced together the information from various research to create a sense of
connectedness. As the purpose for an FBI evidence board is to display how information is linked
together, I believed that this genre type would be the best way to convey the email scandal
information because it links together the timeline of events that occurred within the scandal.
The intended audience for my genretized piece specifically focuses on young adults
voting in the election. I chose this demographic because young adults tend to not be as educated
or interested about political issues compared to older adults. I hope that by creating the FBI
evidence board I will be able to convey to my audience the timeline of events in an ingenious

way, to guarantee that it will educate the viewers on a very pertinent yet intricate topic. To
ensure that my audience will view my FBI evidence board, I plan on making it go viral. Rather
than having news channels broadcast the newly found information, I want to make social media
posts describing the FBI board and content itself. I chose this type of location because young
adults tend to gravitate away from televised media outlets, and focus on more social media for
the news.
I began with a photograph of Hillary Clinton at the top of the board. Placing an image of
the suspect/criminal that the FBI is currently investigating is a common technique used in real
life scenarios. Therefore, I chose to do the same as Hillary Clinton was my topic of investigation.
I then added a recap of information concerning the email scandal that I previously investigated
within my inquiry path in the top left corner. I did this to give background information regarding
the case I was dealing with as well as because it lead into my more advanced investigation. I
placed the headline of the FBIs announcement underneath the initial verdict of stating Clinton
was not charged with committing any crimes during the first investigation. The statement of
reopening the investigation was the next event that happened chronologically, in addition to the
fact that the FBI resumed her case despite it already have reached a final decision.
FBI director James Comey reopened her case because the FBI recognized that Clintons
emails are relevant within the investigation of Anthony Weiner. The FBI will undergo a suitable
investigation to deduce the connection of the emails to the initial investigation in addition to
determining if the emails contained classified information (FBI Lead Back to Clinton Email
Scandal, p4,). This lead to the discovery that Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner may have
been in contact with classified information that only designated officials were allowed to be in

correspondence with. Huma Abedin was one of Clintons aids therefore was authorized to be
working with the classified information. However, as she was once married to Anthony Weiner,
the classified emails were sent and or received off Weiners computer (Goldman, Rappeport,
p1). This shows the connection of the scandal to Weiner, Abedin and Clinton. Which is why I
placed the photographs of each individual under the headline because the reopening of the case
regards them both for probable mishandling of secret information. Additionally I placed a broken
heart in the middle of Abedin and Weiner to show the audience the couple was previously
married as well as the definition of estranged to display their current relationship.
Furthermore, as the investigation continues I placed statements from FBI Director Comey
assessing the degree of the situation as it includes both individuals in addition to explaining their
potential involvement in the scandal. I then drew an arrow from the Comey statement up to
Abedin attaching paragraph describing her connection to Clinton's specifically noting that She
frequently handled classified information (Wolfgang, Noble, p1) as well as she sent classified
information over Clintons unsecured email system (Chumley, Carol, p3). I did this to display
the association of Abedin to Clinton as well as showing that Abedin worked closely with Clinton
in regards to handling classified information through email.
Underneath the highlighted paragraph stating Abedins relationship to Clinton, I placed a
statement indicating the potential effects that the new investigation could cause. I chose to add
this information to the evidence board to display how serious the consequences are if one
mishandled classified information. Specifically focusing on this case, if found guilty Clinton and
Abedin could be indicted for criminally negligent handling of classified material (Foster, Peter,

p6). The potential outcome is so significant that I decided that my audience should be aware of
the repercussions from this investigation.
However, as the investigation began to draw to a close, FBI director James Comey stated
that Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with
respect to Secretary Clinton (Apuzzo, Matt, p3). Although the FBIs conclusion counters the
potential outcome that Clinton and Abedin may have faced, I wanted to connect the two together
to demonstrate what could have resulted versus what was concluded. To do so, I drew an arrow
from the paragraph regarding the potential consequences to the latest FBI statement to display
that Clinton and Abedin will not be charged for their exchange of classified information over
emails.
In spite of the conclusion made by the FBI regarding the email scandals cessation, the
State Department believes that the investigation will continue on. In fact, the State Department
wants as long as five years to see up the 31,000 new Clinton documents found by the FBI
(Judicial Watch, p2). As Comeys announcement lead to this new investigation, I drew an
arrow from the FBI conclusion to this new email probe because I wanted my audience to realize
that this overall investigation could potentially carry on for five years despite a conclusion
already drawn. However, I did place question marks next to the latest announcement because no
new information has been released discussing the State Department's wishes. Therefore, I am
unable to confidently say if a five year investigation will commence, or if the State Department
will settle with the FBIs decision.
Lastly, I did draw an arrow from the five year investigation announcement back to
Comeys original statement of reopening the email scandal. I did this to show my audience that

the reason for the reopened investigation stemmed from Huma Abedin sending and or
responding to classified emails over Anthony Weiners computer. I also wanted my audience to
note that this investigation could potentially continue for up to five years simply because of the
negligent actions taken by Abedin as well as Clinton.
After gathering research to compile my FBI evidence board with, I believe that my
genretized piece will convey my message to the audience. I laid out each piece of information in
chronological order to ensure that my audience can follow step-by-step my research within this
investigation. Additionally, I highlighted important statements of evidence within my piece
(in-text citations in defense paper), which aids in allowing my audience to gain knowledge on the
significant information within the scandal. Overall, I believe my audience will be able to gain
insight about my topic and have a greater sense of understanding within the political world
during the election.
