Key infrastructure challenges facing Colocation

The rise in the popularity of Colocation (or Colo) data centers over the past five years has been
quite spectacular and is now one of the most important market segments in the IT world. Typically,
a Colocation data center provides the premises, power, cooling, bandwidth and physical security
while the customer installs its own servers and storage. Space in the center is generally taken as
required by the rack, cabinet, cage or room.
In the past, Colocation data centers were almost exclusively used by companies for disaster
recovery but the reality of low CAPEX and OPEX has attracted companies of all sizes who deem it
more financially beneficial and easier to outsource their data center requirements. Not for them the
need find the capital necessary to build, operate, maintain and continually update a data center of
their own.
But with multiple tenants requiring customer specific and varied space configurations, as well as
their individual security demands, Colocation data centers face unique infrastructure challenges.
Security is a colocation pre-requisite where private access to server and storage racks is crucial
and necessary. To offer 24/7/365 operation to its customers who demand this level of service,

The LiSA NGR is a fiber distribution frame that consolidates all of the data center
connectivity into one easy to manage location. This centralised approach significantly
reduces the complexity involved in connecting different pieces of equipment and provides the operator with a comprehensive overview of the complete infrastructure.

Flexibility for evolving

High fiber-count cables connecting the LiSA NGR to different zones in the data center,
follow a star topology which will remain in place for the life of the building. This
permanent and structured approach reduces complexity and offers the highest degree
of flexibility as the data center evolves.

Cost effective
With up to 3000 fibers per rack and 6000 fibers per floor tile, the LiSA NGR represents the highest density fiber management system on the market. This means that you
require less floor space than other systems on the market and can reduce your CAPEX
costs accordingly. Real Estate costs are extremely high within the data center market
and Government buildings are no exception due to their centralised city locations.
Additionally the LiSA System is designed to be fast to install and service. Our fiber
trays can be installed without tools in less than 10 seconds and all cable installation
and routing is logical and efficient. These core features greatly reduce the OPEX costs,
and provide a ROI within the first couple of years.

The LiSA fiber trays are available in eight different colours so that our customers can
visualise their infrastructure quickly and easily. Colours can be used to denote optical
performance or they can be used to denote different types of equipment such as servers, switches or storage. Colours help technicians to trace connections quicker which
in turn reduces the time taken for fault finding should a failure occur.

With the MTP cable system portfolio from HUBER+SUHNER, it has never been easier
or faster to make connections in the data center. MTP Trunk cables can be pre-installed
between the LiSA rack and different zones on the data center and later, fiber trays or
modules can be added when needed.
MTP cable systems are compact and scalable and they allow users to grow their
infrastructure according their exact needs. The evolution of the data center is not always clear from the beginning, therefore the MTP design offers an inherent futureproofing which can be exploited at any time during the lifecycle of the data center.

The world is witnessing exponential growth in data rates and it will not be long before
the 1G and 10G systems of today become the 40G and 100G systems of tomorrow.
With the LiSA system, we offer our customers a future-proofed platform that can be
easily upgraded and adapted to accommodate these industry trends. MTP connectivity looks set to be the preferred interface for the higher data rates and subsequently we
will see data centers moving away from traditional LC based infrastructures. Due to the
LiSA systems modular design, our customers can combine different data rates within the
same rack or alternatively make a complete transition to 40G or 100G when required.

NNIT, Denmark
The international IT service supplier NNIT recently established the most advanced
data center in Denmark to provide its expanding customer base with the best colocation facilities available today. Much more than simply a provider of space for servers,

Amongst other things, we supply our services to industries where data is subject to
