I was on an Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme and now have a role at JCB as an XP
Development Fitter. I choose JCB because it is a globally recognised, successful and
innovative company which excels in training, learning and development. There are plenty
of opportunities for your career progression within JCB. In an apprenticeship you learn
both the theory and practical sides of engineering at college and have the opportunity
to combine your skills in the workplace. An apprenticeship is your foundation to your
working career, with the training and new skills you have acquired you can implement
them in the workplace leading to career progression.
Rachel, Former Apprentice.
Higher
Apprenticeships.
I have recently changed job roles from design into development. For me this has been a big step
from design, I can now apply the theory I have learnt in the design office to our new products. I
chose JCB because the opportunity that JCB offers is second to none. As a local person I have
developed a real passion for JCB and enthusiasm about their equipment. I find that there is
never a dull moment at JCB and I enjoy every single moment of every day.
Harry, Higher Apprentice.

Undergraduate
Scheme.
In my placement year at JCB I have worked in three areas of the business; Landpower
Development, Power Systems and in the Backhoe Loader team. I chose JCB as I
wanted a year away from university and at the same time to get some real engineering
experience. The best thing about JCB is getting to use and explore machines which
is something I enjoy doing. I even got to go to Germany as part of my placement!

I am a strategic group buyer and am therefore given many responsibilities at JCB.
For example one of my roles is to achieve the lowest total cost of acquisition
of a product for JCB. I chose JCB as it has such a good reputation and there
are so many opportunities for progression. This opportunity at JCB will enhance
my personal and professional development through the training which they offer.
My career advice would be to ask questions about potential careers with potential
employers and make sure that the company can match your expectations and what you
want from your first step into your career.
