Unit Summary:
In this unit we will focus on the second world war and the role the United States played in. The main focus of the unit will be to
understand the reasons behind war and how it developed. We will be able looking at the major battles taken place. We will also look at
women's role during the war and the part that they played to contribute to the war. We will look at Roosevelt's foreign policy and the
determination to drop the atomic bombs. Finally we will also discuss the Holocaust that took place during the war.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level: For the entry level assessment
students will have Warmups at the
beginning of class that will ask questions,
define terms, or their opinions on the topic
from the previous class to refresh their
memory or getting them thinking for the
new topic.

Lesson Activities: Class will begin with the teacher lecture and students following
along with their guided notes. When taking notes students will stop and answer the
questions that are in the power point and discuss with their partners. After completing
the notes students will be put into groups and will discuss what totalitarianism is and
create a chart including the leaders who were a part of it.
Students will work on the Webercise in which they will begin to outline the main
events of WWII to get a better understanding of how the war took place as we get
further into detail. Finally students will finish class with quizzing each other on the
Holocaust using quizzlet.
Lesson Activities: Students will be lectured about the home front and the battle fields
taken place during the war. After lecturing students will be handed a map to label it
with the countries where the battles took place as well as jot down the names of the
battles. Students will work in pairs on a graphic organizer about the role women
played during the war and their contribution.
Lesson Activities: Students will have a power point with guided notes learning about
the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Students will then have a group
discussion about whether dropping the bombs was right or wrong. Students will read
primary accounts of people living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and will begin to
brainstorm their ideas for their Final unit essay. Students will play Jeopardy in order
to begin reviewing for their unit exam.
